I am currently mandated by a leading Canadian company with a national footprint, operating over 300 service centers, multiple warehouses, and employing more than 1,200 people across all provinces. The organization brings together several well-known distribution brands and is part of an international group present in nearly 30 countries.
As part of its growth strategy, the company is seeking a Category Manager - Indirect Spend to lead strategic sourcing activities across a diverse portfolio of indirect goods and services (excluding logistics and direct materials), managing approximately $100M CAD in annual spend.
Reporting to the Procurement team, the Category Manager will oversee several key spend areas, including packaging, chemicals, HR services, marketing, IT, facilities, and other general indirect categories. The role is focused on delivering value, strengthening supplier relationships, and supporting business objectives through effective and innovative procurement strategies.
Key Responsibilities
Sourcing & Contract Management
Lead complex RFx processes and negotiations to secure optimal pricing, quality, and service terms.
Develop, manage, and oversee supplier contracts while mitigating risks and ensuring compliance.
Identify cost-saving, standardization, and spend optimization opportunities.
Supervise an Indirect Buyer managing day-to-day supplier relationships in certain categories.
Supplier Relationship Management
Build and maintain strategic partnerships with key suppliers.
Monitor supplier performance using KPIs, dashboards, and formal business reviews.
Address non-compliance issues and implement corrective action plans as needed.
Category & Risk Analysis
Conduct market research to stay ahead of industry trends, pricing dynamics, and risk factors.
Develop contingency plans to mitigate supply chain disruptions.
Provide regular performance and strategy updates to senior leadership.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner closely with internal stakeholders including HR, Finance, IT, Marketing, and Operations.
Serve as a liaison between suppliers and internal teams to resolve issues and align strategies.
Contribute to global procurement initiatives and adopt best practices within the group.
Budgeting & Compliance
Support budgeting for all indirect categories in collaboration with department leads.
Conduct regular audits to ensure supplier invoicing aligns with contractual terms.
This is a high-impact role that plays a key part in driving operational efficiency, cost optimization, and long-term value within the organization's indirect procurement function.
Bachelor's degree in administration, supply chain, operations management, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar position;
Ability to coordinate several activities at the same time;
Good knowledge of the Office suite, particularly Excel; Word and Outlook <
