Job summary

Canadian Tire Corporation seeks a senior Category Manager to deliver financial plans through assortment, pricing and promotions for the Party City Merchandising portfolio. You will act as a subject‑matter expert on seasonal categories, analyze consumer trends and competitive activity, and drive store execution aligned with CTR strategy.

The role requires 5 years in category management or related cross‑functional work, strong leadership and collaboration, and travel 2–4 weeks per year to support

  • Strong business acumen with experience in retail marketing, consumer trends and inventory management.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute business plans and initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver financial plans through assortment, pricing and promotions.
  • Act as subject-matter expert for Party City Microseasons portfolio.
  • Analyze trends, competition and store execution to guide CTR strategy.
  • Plan and deliver assortment and pricing plans, including vendor negotiations.
  • Develop promotional plans and ensure education content for stores.
  • Mentor and coach Category Business Analyst and drive accountability.

What you’ll do

Reporting to the AVP, Party City Merchandise, the successful candidate will be accountable for delivering the financial plans of their merchandising categories through the development and execution of assortment, pricing and promotional plans. This role is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in pushing forward our Strategic plans and provide greater benefit to our customers. This role will appeal to someone that is energized by solving new problems and who is Intrapreneurial. Act as the subject‑matter expert for the Party City Microseasons portfolio (Easter, Summer, Christmas, NYE, etc.) Develop a broad categorical understanding of its relative consumer trends, competitive & market analysis and CTR store executional nuances and requirements. Financial accountability for category through adherence to predefined CTR strategy objectives and guidelines Support assortment analysis and development on SKU lines Setting & delivering against categorical assortment plans and evolve to customer centric measures Planning, execution & delivery of line review process which can include but is not limited to: approval of the assortment and pricing plans, import trip planning and execution, vendor relationship/negotiation and overseeing timeline delivery Recommend action plan for item discontinuation and pricing Define and execute against categorical promotional plans; including promotional item selection & offer to deliver against the plans and financial objectives Provide content for store education on product/process education Ensuring adherence to promotional and pricing strategies Develops, mentors, guides and coaches Category Business Analyst by setting clear performance objectives and providing ongoing and timely feedback

What you bring

5 years in Category Management experience and/or progressive growth in a relevant cross functional role Demonstrated ability to develop and execute business plans and initiatives that will achieve financial performance and operational targets Strong business acumen skills; demonstrated expertise of retail marketing, consumer trends, and inventory management Absolute commitment to delivering consumer-focused initiatives; possess superior innovation management skills Strong people management skills with demonstrated ability to develop others Superior leadership skills and presence; highly developed sense of accountability, passion and track record for delivering results Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills; regularly influences and persuades key stakeholders Post-secondary education or equivalent experience Ability to travel 2 - 4 weeks per year

Salary Range: $79,000 – $131,000 CAD. Our typical hiring range is between $81,000.00 - $120,000.00 CAD Annual. Salary decisions are also dependent on other factors such as your experience, job-related knowledge, skills and competencies, market location, industry benchmarks, internal equity and other role‑specific requirements.
