Job summary

Shoppers Drug Mart is seeking a Category Assistant to support product and financial processes within category management. You will maintain data for flyers, assist with planograms, and liaise with vendors to drive category growth.

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of general business or merchandising experience.
  • Post-secondary education with courses in business, merchandising or equivalent.
  • Understanding of inter-related work processes and SDM systems.
  • Professional manner when dealing with vendors and colleagues, including senior management.
  • Computer skills to produce reports, documents and presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Enters, maintains and monitors critical information including key sales and financial data to prepare and analyze weekly sales reports.
  • Prepare end of season postmortem and share sales data with vendors.
  • Ensure data is maintained across SDM SAP and CPMS systems.
  • Prepare worksheets for flyers, merchandising plans and seasonal spreadsheets with estimates, sales, deals and shelf-life information.
  • Proof and edit flyer and seasonal marketing materials for accuracy.
  • Liaise with vendors to ensure on-time delivery of materials to drive category sales and growth.
  • Support Marketing Call Centre to resolve issues promptly.
  • Coordinate communications for stores on category information and updates.
  • Manage samples for seasonal programs.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Planogram, Logistics, Inventory and Promotions to resolve issues.

Why this role is important?

Reporting directly to the Category Director, the Category Assistant supports all product and financial processes associated with category management and assists in the general administration and management of categories and suppliers.The Category Assistant maintains the data for the flyers and all supporting documents, data retrieval and analysis for planograms, reviews, supplier meetings.

Duties:
  • Enters, maintains and monitors all critical information including key sales and financial data to prepare and analyze weekly sales reports.
  • Prepare end of season postmortem, share sales and sell through data to all vendors.
  • Works to ensure all data is maintained accurately across SDM SAP and CPMS systems.
  • Prepares and submits worksheets for flyers, various merchandising plans and seasonal spreadsheets to include accurate estimates, sales, deal, retail and shelf-life information.
  • Proofs and edits flyer and other seasonal marketing initiatives to ensure accuracy and make adjustments as required.
  • Liaises with vendor community to ensure on-time delivery of all required materials to drive the category sales and growth.
  • Provides support to Marketing Call Centre to resolve issues or concerns in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Liaises with vendor community to ensure on-time delivery of all required materials to drive the category sales and growth.
  • Prepares and distributes communications for stores to ensure category information or updates are provided in a timely manner.
  • Manages samples for all seasonal programs.
  • Monitors and liaises with relevant departments including, Marketing, Planogram, Logistics, Inventory and Promotions to resolve issues or concerns in an efficient and timely manner.
Skills

This position requires a demonstrated level of initiative and judgment in order to organize and prioritize tasks, workload and projects. Courtesy, tact and diplomacy are required in dealing with colleagues in every day working relationships.

  • One to three years of general business or merchandising experience.
  • Post-secondary education with courses in business, merchandising or equivalent.
  • Requires an understanding of inter-related work processes to be able to adapt to differing assignments.
  • Understands the interdependent system co-ordination between SDM systems and processes.
  • Provides routine information to coordinate the assignments and work procedures of others.
  • Professional manner, tact, diplomacy and discretion in dealing with vendors and colleagues including senior management.
  • Draws on a number of known options to solve problems and to develop improvements.
  • Computer skills to produce effective, spreadsheets, reports, documents and presentations, as required. Database management.
  • Adaptable to set and prioritize work with varying exceptions.
  • Communicates with clarity, verbally, via e-mail, in oneonone or group situations, or over the telephone
  • Knowledge of category management and merchandising practices and principles.
