Job summary

Riverstone Retirement Communities is seeking an experienced registered nurse to support the Director of Care in planning, delivering and evaluating high-quality resident care across our aging services. The role requires CNON registration, Medication Administration certification and CPR/First Aid, with at least two years in geriatric settings.

Healthy supervisory skills and the ability to lead teams daily are essential.

Qualifications

  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario and Medication Administration Certification.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Two years or more experience, preferably in a geriatric setting.
  • Supervisory skills, emergency management and added nursing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Care in planning, development, organization, implementation and evaluation of overall resident care quality by the nursing department.
  • Deliver and receive report at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Participate in developing health care plans for residents and ensure they are carried out, reviewed and revised as necessary.
  • Perform initial and ongoing nursing assessments of residents’ needs.
  • Maintain ongoing surveillance of residents’ physical and emotional well-being per shift and account for each resident.
  • Administer and/or supervise medication as ordered by attending physicians.
  • Assist residents with personal care as required.
  • Document unusual symptoms and observations.
  • Consult residents’ physicians when necessary.
  • Order, administer and store medication and treatment per Riverstone RC policies and standards.
  • Provide orientation to new hires and supervise/evaluate PSW/HCA staff.
  • Manage department in the absence of Director of Care, including staffing, equipment, and supplies.
  • Liaise with other health care personnel, agencies and families as required.
  • Assist in orientation of residents, family members and nursing staff.
  • Complete audits and reports as required.

Education:

FUNCTIONS:


  • Assists the Director of Care in the planning, development, organization, implementation and evaluation of the overall quality of resident care by the nursing department;

  • Administers and/or supervises medication as ordered by residents’ attending physician;

  • Assists residents with personal care as required;

  • Charts any unusual symptoms and/or observations;

  • Calls residents physician when necessary;

  • Orders, administers and stores medication and treatment in compliance with the Riverstone RC polices, pharmacy and standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario, for current and new residents.

  • Provides orientation to all new hires and directs, assigns and evaluates the work of PSW/HCA;

  • Ability to manage department in the absence of Director of Care, in areas such as staffing, equipment breakdown, supply ordering and receiving;

  • Liaises with other health care personnel, agencies and families as required;

  • Assist in orientation of the residents, family members and nursing staff;

  • Completes audits and reports as required.
