Position: Casual Patient Watch Security Guard

Site: Various Health Care Sites within St. John's

Averaging Agreement: Overtime as per CBA

Hours: Hours may vary site to site (example Days, Nights, Rotating Shifts)

Payrate: $19.00/hour

Posting Date: November 25, 2025

Internal Closing Date: December 26, 2025

External Closing Date: December 26, 2025

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide continuous observation of assigned patients to ensure safety and prevent self-harm or injury.
  • Monitor and report any unusual behavior, incidents, or safety concerns to clinical and security staff.
  • Maintain a respectful and non-invasive presence while observing patients.
  • Work closely with healthcare professionals, following facility protocols and directions.
  • De-escalate situations calmly and appropriately using non-violent crisis intervention techniques.
  • Document observations and incidents accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations at all times.
Prerequisites
  • Clean Letter of Conduct/VSC
  • Valid First Aid & CPR Level C from CSA Approved provider.
  • Tuberculosis (TB) Screening: All healthcare workers must undergo assessment for tuberculosis.
  • Vaccination Documentation: Proof of completion of the full series of childhood/primary vaccinations is required.
  • Tdap Vaccine: One dose of Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Acellular Pertussis (Tdap) vaccine is required upon reaching 18 years of age.
  • Booster Requirement: A booster dose of tetanus toxoid-reduced diphtheria toxoid (Tdap) is required every 10 years
  • English (oral and written) fluency is a must
  • Previous experience in security or a related field preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to stay alert and attentive for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in high-stress environments and remain composed under pressure.
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods and respond quickly in emergency situations.
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Must provide certifications in Management of Aggressive Behaviour (MOAB)
  • Applicants lacking this certification can opt into Paladin's MOAB certification program prior to onboarding training to ensure they meet the requirements of the position
  • The MOAB certification is not paid as it is a pre-requisite, however Paladin will cover all of the costs of the certification with a 6 month commitment to the position/availability
