Qualifications

Casual On-Call Health Centre Nurse

Location: Oakville, Ontario (on-site)

Type: Casual/ON-Call

Work Schedule: 12‑hour day and 12‑hour night shifts, including weekends

Salary Range: $35.00/hour – $40.00/hour

Appleby College is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Health Centre team. This role is essential to supporting the health, safety, and emotional well‑being of our students and campers. HOW YOU WILL THRIVE:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide comprehensive health services and support the daily operations of the Health Centre. As the first point of contact for students and campers, you will deliver essential nursing care, conduct physical and emotional health assessments, and offer comfort, guidance, and support—all while upholding the highest professional standards of practice.

HOW YOU WILL SUCCEED:

  • Conduct health screenings and assessments, including concussion checks, mental health evaluations, and medication administration, identifying any underlying health concerns and referring students for appropriate support.
  • Provide care and guidance for students experiencing illness, injury, emergencies, sleep disturbances, communicable diseases, substance use, mental health challenges, nutrition concerns, etc.
  • Respond to urgent situations and medical emergencies with professionalism and care.
  • Liaise regularly with the Director, Health Services and the School Physician to report concerns and coordinate health services.
  • Support students with scheduling and preparation for medical appointments, including arranging transportation when needed.
  • Deliver health education, promote informed decision‑making, and administer immunizations as required, supporting both school‑based and public health initiatives such as flu and immunization clinics.
  • Manage and implement individualized care plans developed by the Health Centre team to support students with chronic or complex medical needs.
  • Collaborate with house faculty, guidance staff, and the Athletic Therapy Department to support students of concern and manage concussion protocols.
  • Create medical information lists and resources to support trip leaders and students when away from campus.
  • Prepare and maintain first aid kits and medical supplies for on‑campus and off‑campus trips, including international and service trips, taking into account allergies or chronic conditions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and manage all required student reporting.
  • Provide nursing services to campers during March Break and summer programs.

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • Member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
  • CPR and AED certification with annual recertification.
  • Previous nursing experience in a school, pediatric, or community health setting preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Ontario Standards of Nursing Practice and public health guidelines.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices and privacy laws (PHIPPA).
  • Strong background in providing emotional support and mental health care.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, OneNote) and in navigating health record systems.
  • Flexibility for on‑call rotations (12 hours shifts).
