Job description
Position Summary :

The Lifeguard / Instructor will work with the Aquatic Centre team to ensure the safety of the public while adhering to all relevant legislation, policy and procedure for the Town of Strathmore. Responsibility includes preparing lesson plans, delivering instruction based on the program standards and complete report cards.

We strive to provide exceptional aquatic programs and services in a safe environment, with the goal of enhancing quality of life and inspiring personal growth in all areas of aquatics.

Duties will include but are not limited to :
  • Educating the public on the rules of the facility and water safety
  • Creating lesson plans and instructing the Canadian Red Cross Program, Lifesaving Society Program and other programs and services the facility might offer
  • Attending the instructor meeting before each new lesson set
  • Evaluating, completing all report cards, and handing them in on time
  • Completing and handing in all swimming lesson instructor worksheets on time
  • Setting up equipment before classes start and putting equipment away after the Instructor’s shift is done
  • Signing up and committing to teaching programs on a regular basis or as assigned
  • Instructing all lessons within the lesson set dates
  • Displaying positive body language, showing enthusiasm, and creating a fun teaching environment
  • Shall be required to respond to emergency situations such as injuries, pool rescues, power failures etc., by coordinating evacuation of facility, following emergency procedures, and implementing lifesaving and first aid procedures
  • Preparing and reviewing written incident reports
  • Adhering to policies and procedures in support of municipal goals
  • Studying and keeping up to date in the field of aquatics
  • Completing daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning tasks within the aquatic facility
  • Communicating positively and professionally with team members, leaders, patrons, vendors, and any other persons or organizations with whom interaction is required to accomplish work
  • Performing Customer Service Representative duties, provided training is complete and when required
  • Lifeguarding duties as required and ensuring the overall safety of the public
Successful applicants will demonstrate on their resume :
  • Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Certificate – Pool
  • Current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certificate
  • Current Standard First Aid Certificate (within three years)
  • Current CPR C / AED Certificate (within one year)
