Job summary

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board is seeking a Casual Early Learning Assistant to support Extended Day Programs at elementary schools on an on-call basis. You will assist in providing before and after school childcare, work under an Early Childhood Educator, and help enhance play, guide behavior, and model positive interactions.

Requirements include a High School diploma, 1+ year of post-secondary childcare experience, and relevant safety certifications.

Qualifications

• Completion of a High School diploma, and;
• Minimum one (1) year post-secondary experience providing childcare to school age children in a group setting;
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
• Sign language would be considered an asset.
• Valid Intermediate (Standard) First Aid & CPR/AED Level C is required from a WSIB approved provider
• Police Record Check for the Vulnerable sector, valid within the last 6 months is required upon hire.
• Immunization Record is required that shows proof of immunity to MMR and Tdap

Responsibilities

• Under the direction of the Early Childhood Educator, assist in providing childcare before/after school.
• Enhance child-based play, encourage and guide, and model appropriate behaviour techniques.
• Perform other duties to support program objectives.

Summary

Working under the direction of the Early Childhood Educator, the Early Learning Assistant (Extended Day Program) assists in the provision of childcare to students before and after school (including professional activity day and school break periods); enhancing child-based play; encouraging and guiding, and modeling appropriatebehaviourtechniques. Performs other duties to support the overall objectives and goals of theprogram. Aworking knowledge of English is required. A working knowledge of Frenchis required for some positions.Sign language would be considered an asset.

Pay Expectations

Salary: $17.95 perhour, plus 4% vacation pay
