Job summary

Simplicant, Inc. is seeking a friendly Dietary Aide to assist with meal preparation and resident care in our Ontario facility. You will support the cook, follow diet orders, and help ensure a high quality dining experience for residents.

This casual role requires flexibility and commitment to safety and infection control. Qualifications include a Food Handler Certification or related program, plus relevant experience in healthcare or hospitality food service.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read, understand and follow recipe directions, diet orders and work assignments.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for resident care and teamwork.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including emergencies and variable shifts.
  • Familiarity with infection prevention, safe food handling, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in departmental and town hall meetings.
  • Communicate changes in resident status to the team.
  • Maintain open communication between staff and residents, families and the public.
  • Support and promote a team approach in daily activities.
  • Document shift activities including temperatures, dishwasher and equipment checks.
  • Follow dietary plans and contribute to a positive dining experience for residents.

Wage Rate:

The starting wage rate is $21.33/hour.

Vacancy:

We are hiring employees to work on a casual basis to help usfulfil our scheduling needs and fill vacant shifts as they arise. We are offering flexible hours.

Responsibilities:
  • Participate in departmental and town hall meetings
  • Receives verbal/written endorsement regarding changes in resident status
  • Ensures open communication between staff and other team members
  • Encourage participation in the Home’s committees/teams
  • Reports observations to Food Service Manager/Supervisor relating to resident care and others(food preferences, likes & dislikes, intake)
  • Mentoring new staff and students
  • Support and promote a team approach
  • Ongoing delivery of customer service with staff, residents, families, and the public Ensuring optimal quality of life for each resident by the delivery of individualized resident
    care
  • Follow therapeutic interventions according to resident’s plan of care
  • Contributing to the overall pleasurable dining experience of our residents during mealtimes
  • Report faulty equipment and ensure removal from unit
  • Completion of documentation record of every shift (food temperature, freezer, fridge,
    sanitizer, dish machine, equipment checklist audit, cleaning checklists etc.)
  • Adhering to Infection Prevention and Control and Safe Food Handling procedures
  • Required to understand the nature and meaning of quality indicators used by theHome and to understand which indicators are publicly reported. To participate in theimprovement of the indicators and achieve satisfactory results.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory for work areas and communicate needs to the Cookor Food Services Supervisor/Food Services Manager
  • Utilize equipment and supplies within budgetary constraints
  • Complete all required annual education
  • Other duties as assigned and or indicated Job Task Inventory
Qualifications:
  • Preference given to candidates that have successfully completed or is enrolled in a FoodService Worker program at a College of Applied Arts and Technology or a Food ServicesWorker program provided by a private career college (preferred)
  • Or have successfully completed an apprenticeship program in the trade of Cook, InstitutionalCook or Assistant Cook under the Apprenticeship and Certification Act, 1998, the OntarioCollege of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009, or the Building Opportunities in the SkilledTrades Act, 2021; (preferred)
  • Or have entered into a registered training agreement in the trade of Cook, Institutional Cookor Assistant Cook under the Apprenticeship and Certification Act, 1998, the Ontario Collegeof Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009 or the Building Opportunities in the Skilled TradesAct, 2021; (preferred)
  • Or in the reasonable opinion of the Home, appropriate skills, knowledge and experience inthe fields of institutional, health care, restaurant or hospitality food service to perform theduties required of the position
  • Food Handler Certification given by Public Health or a certified agency
  • Previous institutional dietary service experience is preferred
  • Ability to read, understand and follow recipe directions, diet orders and work assignments
  • Able to work flexible hours, such as emergency situations
  • Be knowledgeable of the Ministry of Long-Term Care, Public Health and Home’s rules,regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • To show evidence of being person centered and customer focused when interacting andknowing how to turn a task into positive social interaction.
  • To undertake and meet all legal requirements within a context of promoting individuals’rights and measuring/reducing elements of risk
  • Clear vulnerable sector screening (within the last 6 months), recent TB test results (within thelast 6 months) or a chest X-ray (within the last 1 year),
  • Two supervisory references required
  • Provide proof of all required vaccines. The Employer strongly recommends to "stay up todate" with the recommended vaccines. Vaccination requirements are subject to changes asdetermined by the Employer
