CASUAL CHEF ASSISTANT

Job Function:
  • Reports to the Teaching Chef under the direction of the Principal
  • Assists the Teaching Chef in the training kitchen/cafeteria with the production and services of daily meals
  • Assists the students to learn proper processing methods and evaluating the products
  • Assists with the control of foods in progress and a continuous food supply during the lunch periods
  • Works with students in training, giving guidance both in food production and cleanup
  • Other related duties as required
Qualifications:
  • Grade 12 graduation
  • Two (2) year diploma/certificate in technical school training in Culinary Arts
  • Vocational level certificate in Baking
  • Food Safe Certification
  • Two (2) years of industry experience, preferably in a school setting working with teens
  • Good organizational skills
  • Recognized ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with adults and students
  • Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions
  • Knowledge of basic accounting procedures, spreadsheet and database creation and modification
Hours of Work & Salary:
  • Casual shifts range from 4 to 7.5 hours per day, Monday - Friday, while schools are in session
  • Short-term assignments may also be available
  • Casual employment may lead to a regular position in the district
  • Chef Assistant pay is $34.84 per hour
