Job summary

The Government of the Northwest Territories is seeking a Career Development Navigator to support workforce development across the Northwest Territories. You will deliver career, employment, training, and apprenticeship services while collaborating with individuals, employers, Indigenous governments, schools, and community partners.

You will provide individualized career and employment case management, administer funding programs, and help expand access to professional certification pathways.

The Department of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) provides the residents of the Northwest Territories with access to quality programs, services and support to assist them in making informed and productive choices for themselves and their families with regard to education, training, careers, employment and labour, child development, languages, culture and heritage.

The Career Development Navigator plays a key role in supporting workforce development across the Northwest Territories by delivering career, employment, training, and apprenticeship services. Working closely with individuals, employers, Indigenous governments, educational institutions, and community partners, the incumbent helps improve access to employment opportunities, skills development, and professional certification pathways.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver career development, employment, and training programs and services.
  • Provide individualized career and employment case management to clients.
  • Administer funding programs, contribution agreements, and training initiatives.
  • Support the delivery of apprenticeship and trade certification programs, including client registration, technical training coordination, and compliance monitoring.
  • Develop and maintain effective partnerships with employers, Indigenous governments, schools, and community organizations.
  • Promote workforce development initiatives through outreach, workshops, events, and stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Relevant post-secondary diploma or Journey Certification and two (2) years of related experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience working with diverse clients and stakeholders, including Indigenous communities.
  • Knowledge of employment and training programs, labour market trends, and career development practices is considered an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence, or the ability to obtain one within six (6) months of employment.

Equivalences

  • A Diploma in a related discipline such as career development, social sciences, counselling or Diploma in a designated trade and a minimum of two years of related experience
  • Related experience = in career counselling in a service oriented environment

All other equivalencies will be assessed on a case by case basis

Salary Information

The salary range for this position is from $49.68 per hour to $59.35 per hour (approximately $96,876 - $115,733.) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,700.
