Qualifications

  • Level 2 staff will need a degree in human services.
  • Level 1 staff should have a diploma or be working towards a degree.

Job description
Chimo Youth Retreat Centre:

Do people in your life call you a caring person? Do you have education or life experiences that can help a young family to realize their capacity and live their best lives?

If yes, Chimo is looking for people like you to fill part‑time and full‑time Care Worker positions in our Group Care Home designed especially for youth. As a Care Worker in our program, you will be part of a close‑knit team that provides support, education, and nurturing in a 24/7 caring, safe, home environment. Your work will help youth develop the skills they need to thrive.

We are currently looking to fill these roles:

  • Full Time Care Counsellor – Level 1 or 2 only with drive. (Level 1 – Diploma, Level 2 – Degree)

We are currently only looking for level 1 or 2 candidates, with a Class 5 license, and 3 years claims‑free auto insurance history.

More details about what we are looking for
  • Warm and caring individuals who can form strong, supportive relationships with youth from diverse and often disadvantaged backgrounds and histories. We are looking for mentors to guide youth through challenges and help them feel safe and valued.
  • People with some level of post‑secondary education. We most often hire people with diplomas and degrees in Child and Youth Care or Social Work.
  • People who work best in a team environment. We are looking for team members who are excited to make lasting differences in the lives of youth while building a rewarding career in the Child and Youth Care field.
  • Employees with standard workplace skills, including good communication, decent writing skills, punctuality, ability to use technology in the workplace, and a strong sense of responsibility and professionalism.
  • Physically able to do this work, including shift work, indoors and outdoors in all seasons, climb stairs in the group home, complete household management tasks (cleaning, meal prep, cooking, grocery shopping) and yard work (mowing lawns, planting gardens, raking leaves, shoveling snow). This is not a desk job.
  • People who understand the concepts that are important to us, including trauma‑informed care, strength‑based approaches, Indigenous worldviews, child and youth development, child‑parent attachment, therapeutic milieu of group care.
What paperwork do we need from you before you start?
  • Level 2 staff will have a degree in human services – required.
  • Level 1 staff will have a diploma, actively working on their post‑secondary degree, and/or have life experiences or job experiences that provide value to the role.
  • A clear and current, within 6 months, Criminal Records Check.
  • A clear and current Children Services Intervention Record Check.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s License, a clean Drivers’ Abstract, and 3 full years insurance history.
  • Proof of COVID‑19 vaccination (2 doses minimum).
  • If your degree came from an international institute you will be asked for an ISQA Assessment (International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) | Alberta.ca).
