Job summary

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a Care Aide in Powell River, BC, to support a resident/client-centered care model under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. The role includes assisting with personal care, meals, and daily activities, while observing clients’ progress and reporting changes to the interdisciplinary team.

Successful candidates should have completed a Health Care Assistant program or equivalent and be eligible for BC Care Aide Registry.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to interact with others respectfully and professionally.
• Physical stamina to perform care duties and transfers as required.
• Able to organize and prioritize tasks in a busy care setting.
• Familiarity with patient care information systems and basic equipment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in delivering client care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or designate.
• Provide personal care such as bathing, grooming, meals, and oral hygiene.
• Respond to call bells/alarms and monitor client conditions.
• Maintain a clean, safe environment and assist with transfers as needed.
• Document observations and progress according to care plans.

Job description

Come work as a Care Aide in Powell River, BC with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

Within the context of a resident/client and family centered care model and in accordance with established vision and values of the organization, the Care Aide works under the functional direction of a Registered Nurse or other designate and in cooperation with interdisciplinary team members to assist in the delivery of client care. Following established care plans provides personal care; bathes, grooms, dresses, assists with meals and oral hygiene and performs nursing care duties as applicable. Responds to call bells/alarms. Observes and monitors clients’ progress, symptoms and behavioural changes and reports/records significant observations. Utilizes mechanical aides such as specialty beds, wheelchairs and stretchers to transport clients and provides assistance with lifting and/or transferring of clients following established lifting/safety techniques. Maintains a clean and safe environment for clients and staff. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

• Grade 10 (including English 10).
• Successful graduation from a recognized Health Care Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Eligible for registration with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
