Job summary

A leading health care provider in New Westminster, B.C., is seeking a Cardiovascular Technologist for a casual position at Royal Columbian Hospital. Responsible for monitoring patients' ECG and hemodynamics during various procedures, the successful candidate will also prepare reports and maintain medical equipment. Responsibilities

  • Prepare patient for procedures by applying electrodes.
  • Gather patient history and enter data in EMR systems.
  • Monitor ECG & hemodynamics during procedures.
  • Prepare reports on recorded hemodynamics.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot monitoring equipment.
  • Participate in emergency procedures under physician direction.

Job Summary

We are currently looking to fill a Casual opportunity for a Cardiovascular Technologist at Royal Columbian Hospital located in New Westminster, B.C.

Detailed Overview

Under the general supervision of the manager and per the Cardiologist, the Cardiovascular Technologist is responsible for monitoring a patient’s ECG & hemodynamics during various invasive procedures such as heart catheterizations and angioplasties as well as specialized procedures performed in the Cardiac Catheterization laboratory including but not limited to PFO, ASD, VSD, LAA closures, TAVI, carotid angiograms and angioplasties and septal ablations.

The CV Tech analyzes the information gathered during these procedures, conveys it to the Cardiologist during the procedure and generates standard reports for each procedure. The CV Tech maintains equipment as required; assists in setting up and calibrating the equipment for each procedure.

Responsibilities
  1. Prepares patient for procedure by applying electrodes and shave prep if necessary.
  2. Gathers patient information/history from patient and Meditech EMR, MUSE and the provincial Cardiac Registry (HeartIS); enters orders in Meditech; prepares information for the patient chart.
  3. Sets up, calibrates, monitors and analyzes the patient’s ECG & hemodynamics during the various procedures; conveys vital information and any changes to the physician.
  4. Enters data and prepares reports, with analysis of recorded hemodynamics including ejection fraction, coronary disease, resistances and calculation of valve gradient and area.
  5. Sets up, maintains, calibrates, troubleshoots a variety of equipment: physiological data monitoring system, ACT machine, FICK machine, defibrillator.
  6. Maintains records for Provincial Cardiac registry (HeartIS).
  7. Prepares related paperwork for STEMI cases.
  8. Assists in pulling supplies for cases; setting up procedural trays using sterile technique; prepping of patients as required.
  9. Under the direction of the physician - participates in defibrillating, external pacing and occasional cardioversion and CPR as required.
  10. Other related duties as required.
Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience: Diploma in Cardiovascular Technology. Two (2) years’ recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Eligible for registration with the Canadian Association of Cardiology Pulmonary Technologists (CACPT) and /or CCI RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist) credential.
