Join our compassionate home care team dedicated to providing culturally sensitive care to seniors and individuals in the Cantonese-speaking community. As a Cantonese Speaking Personal Support Worker (PSW), you will play a vital role in ensuring our clients maintain their independence, dignity, and quality of life in the comfort of their own homes. Fluency in Cantonese is a mandatory requirement to effectively communicate with our clients and understand their cultural needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Personal Care: Provide hands‑on assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and personal hygiene.
  • Companionship & Communication: Offer emotional support and companionship, engaging clients in meaningful activities. Crucially, communicate fluently in Cantonese to alleviate language barriers and facilitate trust.
  • Household Support: Perform light housekeeping tasks essential to the client's safety and well‑being, such as laundry, tidying, and making beds.
  • Meal Preparation: Plan and prepare nutritious meals and snacks, often following special dietary requirements and respecting traditional Cantonese/Chinese culinary preferences.
  • Mobility & Transfers: Assist clients with safe transfers, ambulation, and prescribed exercises, utilizing mobility aids (e.g., walkers, wheelchairs, lifts) as needed.
  • Medication Assistance: Provide medication reminders and assistance as per the care plan and scope of practice.
  • Documentation: Accurately observe, report, and document any changes in the client's physical, emotional, or cognitive status to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Errands/Escort: Accompany clients to appointments (medical, social) and assist with shopping and errands as required.
Qualifications and Skills
Must-Have Requirements
  • Language Fluency: Must be fluent in Cantonese (verbal and written) and proficient in English. Understanding of Mandarin is a strong asset.
  • Certification: Personal Support Worker (PSW) Certificate, Health Care Aide (HCA) Certificate, or an equivalent qualification (e.g., Certified Caregiver, Foreign‑Trained Nurse/Nursing Student).
  • Experience: Proven experience of 1‑3 years in a home care, long‑term care, or community setting, particularly with geriatric care.
  • Clearance: Current Vulnerable Sector Check (Criminal Record Check) and proof of up‑to‑date immunizations (including TB test).
  • First Aid/CPR: Valid CPR and Standard First Aid Certification.
  • Cultural Competence: A strong understanding and respect for Chinese and Cantonese culture, traditions, and dietary practices.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience in dementia, Alzheimer's, or palliative care.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Familiarity with electronic charting/documentation systems.
