CAMP HELPER
Department: Community Services Department - Recreation Division
Number of Positions: Ten (10)
File Number: SV25-159
Location: Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre (265 Cannifton Road, Belleville, ON)
Hours: 5-20 hours per week, shifts between 7:00am – 6:00pm, Monday to Friday, with 1-4 hours per day. Note: Training hours (June) will differ.
Employee Group: Non-Union
Salary: $16.94 - $17.65 per hour
Closing Date: Friday, January 9, 2026 at 4:30 PM

Purpose and Scope:

As a member of the Community Services Department, this position will assist the Camp Leaders to provide safe supervision and to organize and implement games and activities for children ages 4 to 17 years.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the safety and supervision of the participants and follow all rules and regulations set out by the Department and/or outside organizations.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of the daily activities.
  • Assist with the proper handling and care of the equipment, supplies and facilities utilized, reporting damage or losses to the Camp Coordinator.
  • Assist with the daily cleanliness of the facility.
  • Communicate with fellow leaders and parents, as required.
  • Be involved with the completion of the required administrative forms.
  • Be required to participate in daily activities with the campers (including swimming).
  • Supervise participants during the extended hours service, when scheduled.
  • Act as a Junior Leader in the absence of one.
  • Attend Summer Staff Training and scheduled staff meetings, as required.
  • The position is responsible for providing timely, accurate information to the Camp Coordinator and for responding to the decisions and directions generated by same.
  • Camp Helpers will make decisions around child safety and supervision and activity planning aspects of the day camp programs.
  • Perform all tasks and responsibilities through the lens of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, ensuring commitment to fairness, representation, accessibility and respect for diverse perspectives and cultures in all aspects of work.

Required Qualifications:
  • Enrolled in Highschool or equivalent.
  • Valid current Standard First Aid and C.P.R. certification.
  • Valid High Five – Principles of Healthy Child Development certification.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSC) prior to commencing work at the City of Belleville.
  • Previous experience working with children in either a paid or volunteer role.
  • Experience leading children's activities like crafts, games, music, sports.
Asset Qualifications:
  • Babysitting Course/Training.
  • Completion of a Leader-In-Training program.
  • Bronze Medallion swimming qualification.
  • NCCP Coaching certifications.
  • L.I.T. training and experience.
  • Previous volunteering experience.
Recruitment Process:
  • Stage 1 – Interviews: Interviews with candidates selected for the interview stage will be scheduled between February 20, 2026 and February 22, 2026.
  • Stage 2 – Offer Letter and Onboarding Paperwork: Offers will go out before the end of March 2026 and a date will be included in all offer letters for return of onboarding paperwork.
  • Stage 3 – Start Date: The anticipated commencement of this position is June 6, 2026 to June 28, 2026 (training, reduced schedule); regular schedule from June 29, 2026 until September 4, 2026.
