What you offer

Reporting to the Neighbourhood Day Camp Coordinator, the Assistant Coordinator – Y Neighbourhood Day Camp (Y NDC) supervises and implements the delivery of quality recreational programs, services and experiences to children and youth aged 4 to 12 enrolled in Neighbourhood Day Camp programs. The Assistant Coordinator - Y NDC supervises counsellors and program staff, provides them with tools to create a meaningful camp experience for all participants as they engage in summer camp activities, discover nature and enjoy the natural environment, build self-confidence and establish lasting friendships.

  • Neighbourhood of Stittsville
  • Neighbourhood of Ottawa South or Orleans
Tasks
  • Assisting in the coordination of camp logistics.
  • Assisting with the hiring of seasonal staff, including interviewing, selection and training.
  • Assisting in coaching and providing feedback to seasonal staff members.
  • Supporting operations, including kitchen and program shifts.
  • Communicating with camper families about their camper's time at camp.
Qualifications and Abilities

  • Ability to work in English
  • Bilingualism is an asset
Experience, Skills and Abilities
  • National Lifeguard Certification, Bronze Cross, Paddle Canada, or other relevant certifications will be strongly considered as assets
  • Minimum 4 years' experience working in camping and outdoor education, and minimum 2 years' supervisory experience in camping and outdoor education
  • Driver’s license and access to a readily available vehicle
  • Well-developed interpersonal, conflict resolution and relationship‑building skills
  • Ability to maintain calm demeanor in stressful situations
  • Ability to act as a positive role model for campers, staff and volunteers
Additional Requirements
  • Applicants must be 18 years old by April 2026.
  • Applicants must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
  • A Police Record check, not more than 6 months old is required. Police Records checks are reviewed on an individual basis and the offense(s) – if any – is considered in the decision‑making process in relation to the requirement of working with children, therefore not eliminating all candidates with a record from being offered a position.
  • Semi‑annually, staff must complete the mandatory training for the protection of Children & Youth and submit the certificate of completion.
