CAFETERIA ASSISTANT (SCHOOL-BASED)
START DATE: As soon as possible
Reports To: School Principal / Vice-Principal
Union Status: Out of Scope
Location: Pembina Trails Collegiate
Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Salary: $20.80 - $22.88 per hour depending on qualifications
Language Requirement: English

Purpose of Position
The Cafeteria Assistant will support the Cafeteria Manager in the day-to-day operation of the school cafeteria. This will include food preparation, basic cooking, food safety and sanitation, and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Assists the Cafeteria Manager with daily cafeteria operations.
- Prepares ingredients and completes daily food-preparation tasks.
- Cooks and prepares made-to-order menu items.
- Prepares grab-and-go foods, daily specials, snacks, and other menu items.
- Follows standardized recipes, proper portioning, and presentation standards.
- Serves students and staff efficiently and provides friendly customer service.
- Assists with cashier and POS duties as needed.
- Follows food-safety, sanitation, allegen-awareness, and safe food-handling procedures.
- Stocks and replenishes food, beverages, condiments, packaging and supplies.
- Assists with receiving and properly storing food and supply deliveries.
- Monitors inventory levels and communicates restocking needs to the Cafeteria Manager.
- Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of food-preparation, cooking, service, and storage areas.
- Assists with dishwashing, equipment cleaning, and end-of-day closing duties.
- Supports the Cafeteria Manager with other operational duties as required.
Skills And Qualifications
- Previous experience in food services, cafeteria, restaurant, or commercial kitchen operations.
- Experience with food preparation and cooking in a fast-paced environment.
- Food Handler Certification or willingness to obtain certification.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills to effectively execute snack and/or meal preparations for a considerable number of students.
- Ability to follow recipes, instructions, food-safety procedures, and portion-control standards.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with students and staff.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment, ensuring smooth and efficient cafeteria operation.
Skill And Knowledge – Desired
- Previous experience in food service, or nutrition-related roles.
- Experience in a large urban school division.
- First Aid/CPR
