Job summary

Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) General Surgeons provide trauma and general surgical care for CAF members, serving in CAF Health Services Clinics or operating theatres, or overseas on peacekeeping or humanitarian missions. They may lead surgical teams, educate multidisciplinary staff, and remain clinically ready across civilian hospitals and deployed settings.

These roles offer opportunities to advance medical practice within the CAF, participate in field training, and contribute to health policy

Responsibilities

• Provide surgical consultation for CAF Members in Canada and deployed internationally;
• Lead a surgical or emergent care team caring for injured and ill patients in Canada and in deployed settings;
• Educate and advise multidisciplinary teams on trauma and general surgery care;
• Maintain a high level of surgical skills, by holding a position within a civilian health care facility;
• Contribute to the development and application of health care policies within the CAF.
