Job summary

Westport Fuel Systems in Cambridge On, Canada designs and manufactures comprehensive alternative fuel components, focusing on H2 and CNG. This role centers on CAD design, including 2D & 3D, with change management for existing and new products using SolidWorks.

  • Provide technical support to purchasing, production, customer service and quality assurance.
  • Participate on 8D problem solving teams when necessary.

Job description

Westport Fuel Systems in Cambridge On, designs and manufactures a comprehensive product mix of alternative fuel components for applications in the light and heavy-duty vehicle and industrial segments globally. This product mix includes Hydrogen (H2) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) components such as pressure regulators, tank valves, PRD's, PRV’s, shutoff valves and integrated systems for a wide range of applications, including Fuel Cell vehicles.

About the Role

This is an exciting Engineering opportunity to make a difference in the growing alternative fuels industry. We’re looking for energetic and motivated team members to further improve our product offerings for H2 and CNG components. This role is focused on CAD design, including 2D & 3D as well as change management for both current products and new products.

Responsibilities

  • Design tasks for assigned H2 & CNG projects, from concept CAD generation through to production release
  • Dimension drawings via appropriate GD&T standards

  • Provide technical support to purchasing, production, customer service and quality assurance

  • Promote Westport’s H&S culture following all Environmental, and H&S procedures and understanding your obligations and responsibilities
  • Report unsafe conditions, behaviors and all accidents
  • Co-operate with JHSC (Joint Health & Safety Committee) and Safety representative

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • Minimum two years of SolidWorks experience is mandatory.

Required Skills

  • GD&T experience is mandatory
  • Product Data Management (PDM) system experience such as SolidWorks EPDM is an asset
  • Experience with design of high-pressure components/valves/actuators is considered an asset
  • Understanding of industry & regulatory requirements is considered an asset
  • Tier 1 or Tier 2 Automotive experience is an asset
  • Places importance on attention to detail and maintaining high-quality standards
  • Capable of working in a pro-active manner with minimal supervision
  • Ability to respond to frequent demands in order to meet deadlines
  • Good mechanical aptitude and hands on skills considered an asset
  • Effective communication skills & ability to work within a team
  • Good organization skills, including task & priority management
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with design of high-pressure components/valves/actuators is considered an asset
  • Understanding of industry & regulatory requirements is considered an asset
