Job summary

A woodworking company in Calgary is seeking a skilled cabinet maker to operate woodworking machines and prepare custom-made cabinets. The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of experience, a high school diploma, and the ability to work on-site. Responsibilities include shaping wood, supervising workers, and maintaining a clean work environment. This is a full-time, permanent position with competitive pay.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Operate woodworking machines to cut and shape parts.
  • Prepare specifications for custom-made cabinets.
  • Shape surfaces or edges of wood using hand tools.
  • Study plans and specifications for production.
  • Trim joints and fit parts to form complete units.
  • Sand surfaces and apply finishes to products.
  • Maintain clean and safe work environment.
  • Supervise other workers.
  • Estimate costs and materials.
  • Repair or restyle wooden furniture and fixtures.

Experience

  • Operate woodworking machines, such as power saws, jointers, mortisers and shapers, to cut, shape and form parts and components
  • Prepare specifications of custom-made cabinets that maximize storage
  • Shape surfaces or edges of wood workpieces, using hand tools, such as planes, chisels, or wood files.
  • Study plans, specifications or drawings of articles to be made
  • Trim joints and fit parts and subassemblies together to form complete unit and reinforce joints
  • Sand wooden surfaces and apply veneer, stain or polish to finished products; prepare and apply laminated plastics
  • Apply varnish, veneer, stain or polish to finished products
  • Maintain clean and safe work environment
  • Supervise other workers
  • Estimate costs and materials
  • Repair or restyle wooden furniture, fixtures and related products
