Job summary

Blommer Chocolate Company is seeking a Production Operator to maintain high quality while refining paste batches into liquid chocolate or compound. You will input product specs into the system, prepare boxes for the line, and inspect finished products for proper appearance.

Responsibilities include adjusting machines to minimize waste, delivering test samples to the lab, and ensuring CFIA/FDA HACCP compliance. The role requires teamwork, accuracy, and adherence to safety and GMP standards.

Qualifications

  • Ability to apply mathematical reasoning to measurements of ingredients or quantities.
  • Basic technology skills to record data into computer or tablet.

  • Load finished product and inspect appearance for quality.
  • Adjust machines to minimize inaccuracies, defects, or waste.
  • Deliver sample tests to the lab to verify recipe specifications (fineness, color, consistency).
  • Report any defective materials or damaged tools to the supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area and equipment.
  • Comply with CFIA, FDA HACCP, GMP guidelines and safety requirements.
  • Rotate into other production areas as needed and collaborate with colleagues.
  • Perform additional duties during downtime as required.

Job description

The Production Operator is responsible for maintaining the highest quality standards while refining paste batches into liquid chocolate or compound.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Input required documentation of product specifications and quality into the system
  • Prepare boxes for production line: record empty weight, add liner, stamp product line, affix product labels
  • Load finished product off the production line and visually inspect to ensure appearance is appropriate for the product
  • Adjust machines as needed to minimize inaccuracies, defects, or waste
  • Deliver regular sample tests to laboratory to confirm accurate recipe specifications, measuring items such as fineness, color and consistency
  • Report any defective materials, missing or damaged tools to the Supervisor
  • Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition
  • Ensure critical control point compliance documenting - Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) results, magnet cleaning, downtime, waste generation; report any non-conformities
  • Rotate into other production areas and perform additional duties where resources may be needed
  • Collaborate with co-workers on the plant floor throughout production cycle
  • Pick up other tasks that may be needed during downtime (maintaining clean work areas, etc.)
  • Operate within the Blommer core values of respect and care for others

Physical Requirements:
  • Able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for prolonged periods of time
  • Able to set up, adjust and operate machinery
  • Able to observe and detect issues with product color and fineness
  • Regularly required to bend, stoop, and reach
  • Occasionally ascend/descend stairs
  • Occasionally move materials weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Constantly operate within a manufacturing product environment- daily exposure to noise, dust and variation in temperature (hot/cold)
Safety, Quality and Hygiene Requirements:
  • Operate with a focus on safety and quality, while maintaining a sanitary work environment
  • Comply with Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), Lockout/Tagout requirements for hazardous energy sources
  • Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to ensure that products are consistently produced and controlled according to quality standards
  • Adhere to CFIA & FDA HACCP guidelines
  • Adhere to Allergen Management best practices for food manufacturers
  • Comply with workplace uniform requirements and safety gear
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies, procedures and code of conduct
Skills and Work Experience Requirements:
  • Able to follow clear instructions
  • Able to read and write English to perform tasks successfully
  • Skilled in applying mathematical reasoning to the measurements of ingredients for production purposes
  • Basic technology skills to record data into computer or electronic tablet
  • Continuous attention to details in performing all tasks
  • Comfortable working as an individual contributor as well as with a team, as required
  • Expected to identify, communicate/escalate and problem-solve as issues arise

*This is a 12- hour position that rotates on a Continental rotation. The positions available range in experience and include drop packaging, drop operator, refiner operator, dry grind operator, utility operator and paste mixing operator. The pay range is between $ 20.00 to $ 22.00/ hour.
