Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Partnership (MLSE) is seeking a Full Stack Developer on a 12-month independent contract. You will develop and maintain team coaching apps with a focus on React frontend, Python backend, and AWS integration. React Native support is also part of the scope.

Reports to the Director, Software Engineering within the Sport Performance Lab. The role requires collaboration across teams, adherence to security standards, and familiarity with AI-assisted development tools.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of experience in full stack development.
  • Hands-on experience with React frontend.
  • Proficiency in Python for backend and API development.
  • Familiarity with AWS services and their integration.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tooling and code review.
  • Knowledge of React Native is a plus.
  • Advocate of security best practices and SDLC.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain web application features using React, adhering to DevOps practices and security standards.

Job Description MLSE Sport Performance Lab is seeking a Full Stack Developer to join our team. This individual will play a key role in developing and maintaining team coaching applications across multiple projects. They will focus on frontend development (React), backend/API development (Python/AWS), and provide development support for mobile applications using React Native. This role reports to the Director, Software Engineering. Sport Performance Lab is a research & development team focused on delivering wins for our professional teams. We are looking for individuals who are eager to learn and able to collaborative within a diverse team.

Position Type: 12-month independent contract

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain web application features using React, adhering to modern DevOps practices and security standards.
  • Design, implement, and support APIs to integrate frontend and backend systems, leveraging Python and AWS services.
  • Provide development support for iOS apps using React Native.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery while maintaining code quality, security, and correctness standards.
  • Assist with backend development tasks using Python, ensuring stability and performance.
  • Collaborate with other teams, such as infrastructure and application engineering, to define metadata layers, technical strategies, and efficient integration across the existing landscape.
  • Develop and implement testing solutions, including automation, to ensure application quality and reliability.
  • Provide high-level sizing estimates and contribute to planning and scoping discussions to ensure alignment on technical solutions, project goals, and prioritization.
  • Contribute to and maintain documentation of engineering best practices, tools, and frameworks.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in full stack development.
  • Hands-on experience with React for frontend development.
  • Proficiency in Python for backend and API development.
  • Familiarity with AWS services and their integration into backend systems.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tooling (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) and sound judgment about when to use it, including review of AI-generated code.
  • Knowledge of React Native or a strong interest in learning mobile development is a plus.
  • Advocate of security best practices and micro-service architecture.
  • Proven ability to take a project from scoping requirements through to product launch.
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices, including version control, code reviews, testing, and operations.
  • Experience collaborating with backend developers to design and integrate APIs and web services into applications.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and effectively manage multiple priorities.
Nice-to-haves:
  • Experience building Swift apps.
  • Familiarity with tools like Figma, Invision, or Adobe XD for design handoffs.
  • Experience with sports data or knowledge of the sports industry.
  • Interest in or experience with data visualization techniques or libraries for presenting complex statistics.
  • Basic understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Previous experience working with confidential data or information.
