Kinectrics is seeking a permanent Buyer to join the Procurement department in Toronto. The role focuses on reviewing requisitions, drafting purchase orders, negotiating terms, and ensuring on-time delivery for parts, services, and lab supplies.

The ideal candidate has a college-level purchasing background, a CSCMP designation or equivalent, and at least six years of purchasing experience. Strong cross-border and SAP skills, plus excellent communication, are required.

Responsibilities

  • Review purchase requisitions and ensure compliance with policies.
  • Prepare purchase orders for parts, components, services and lab supplies.
  • Negotiate terms, prices, and contracts with suppliers.
  • Place purchase orders and track shipments for on-time delivery.
  • Ensure purchases comply with policies, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct commercial evaluations using Incoterms and payment terms.
  • Work cross-functionally to meet value, quality and delivery targets.
  • Maintain records including open orders, cashflow, and cost savings reports.
  • Incorporate supplier terms and negotiate special terms as needed.
  • Develop supplier relationships and resolve issues in delivery or invoicing.
  • Ensure services meet requester requirements and close expired orders.

Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact
  • Review purchase requisitions and supporting documents and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Prepare purchase orders from purchase requisitions to procure parts, components, services, chemicals, lab supplies, instruments, services, etc. on a timely and accurate basis.
  • Negotiate terms, prices, and contracts with suppliers to ensure favorable agreements.
  • Place purchase orders and track shipments to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Ensure all purchases comply with company policies, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conducting commercial evaluations, use of proper Incoterms, payment terms/milestones including clarifications and/or negotiations.
  • Work in a cross-functional team environment to achieve continually benchmarking, negotiate with and select those suppliers who can meet or exceed company requirements in terms of best value for price, quality, and delivery.
  • Maintain accurate records of all purchasing activities, ensuring the open goods report is up to date with delivery dates, cashflow, cost savings report and accrual listing.
  • Review vendor comments of Kinectrics Standard Terms and Conditions and incorporate special terms and conditions, as required.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers to foster partnerships and ensure high service levels.
  • Resolve supplier issues, including delivery delays, and invoicing issues.
  • Develop a customer-supplier relationship to ensure all services and deliverables meet the requirements of the requestor/customer.
  • Closing of expired purchase orders.
  • Generate monthly open order reports and issue to various departments.
  • Provide coverage for purchase order receipting as backup.
  • Perform duties in a safe/compliant manner with respect to Kinectrics policies and procedures
What You Need To Succeed
  • Completion of Community College plus additional specialized courses in Purchasing or equivalent.
  • Certified Supply Chain Management Professional (CSCMP) designation or equivalent.
  • 6 years purchasing/buyer experience
  • Experience in negotiating strategic purchasing contracts with terms favorable to the company requirements.
  • Candidate must be able to demonstrate ability to multi-task, be flexible, work in a team-oriented atmosphere, and have the ability to interact professionally with internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrate understanding and compliance with all business supply chain strategies, processes, and procedures.
  • Understanding of purchasing law and can execute purchasing contracts.
  • Understand principal transportation terms and conditions.
  • Fluent in cross-border functionalities and processes for export and import.
  • Expertise in computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Word, Excel, etc.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of SAP or similar applications.
  • Has achieved cost savings through negotiations.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills and time management and ability to work independently on a day-to-day basis.
  • Proven high level of customer service.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Assertive and can deal with all levels of staff within the organization.
  • Operates with a high level of ethical values.
  • Previous experience in a multi-faceted purchasing and/or manufacturing environment.

This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
