At FortNine, our Buyers are responsible for curating and purchasing the right mix of powersports and mountain bike products — from parts and components to gear and apparel — that meet customer needs and align with FortNine’s positioning in the market. This role requires deep knowledge of brands, culture, and industry trends. Our Buyers manage vendor relationships, negotiate terms, and ensure our assortment is competitive, profitable, and reflective of what riders want!

Please note that we are currently only considering applicants from the Montreal and surrounding area, for a Hybrid role. No fully remote applicants will be considered at this time.

This role will have occasional travel required to meet with suppliers and attend industry shows.

Key Responsibilities

Assortment & Buying

  • Select and purchase products across multiple categories (parts, apparel, protective gear, accessories).
  • Balance assortment breadth and depth to serve different rider segments (entry-level to expert).
  • Manage seasonal buying cycles, including pre-books and replenishment orders.
  • Monitor sell-through and adjust buying plans to maximize performance.

Vendor & Supplier Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brands and distributors.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and promotional support with vendors.
  • Identify and onboard new suppliers that fit FortNine’s positioning and customer demand.
  • Evaluate vendor performance and ensure accountability on delivery, quality, and service.

Market & Customer Insights

  • Stay up to date with trends, product innovations, and rider preferences.
  • Conduct competitive analysis on product assortments, pricing, and promotions.
  • Use customer and sales data to refine buying decisions and forecast demand.

Financial Accountability

  • Manage purchasing budgets and ensure targeted margins are achieved.
  • Track inventory levels and minimize stockouts and overstock situations.
  • Collaborate with finance and operations to align purchasing with business objectives.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with the data management team to ensure products are positioned effectively online and in-store.
  • Partner with stakeholders to align buying strategy with overall growth goals.
  • Support marketing initiatives with product launches, seasonal promotions, and storytelling opportunities.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in retail or wholesale buying, ideally in cycling, outdoor, or sporting goods.
  • 3+ years of buying, purchasing, or category experience (cycling or sporting goods preferred).
  • Analytical and data-driven with strong forecasting and planning skills.
  • Solid communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Proficiency in Excel, ERP, or buying/planning systems.
  • Preferred: Strong knowledge of Powersports or MTB culture, brands, and products.
  • Preferred: Proven ability to negotiate vendor terms and manage supplier relationships.

How you benefit:

  • We’re located within a 5-minute walk from Du College metro (orange line). We also offer free parking, right on-site.
  • Health Insurance including medical, dental, vision and life.
  • Free unlimited healthy snacks and drinks.
  • Clean and newly built office environment with ergonomic workstations, and a work-from-home allocation for remote opportunities that you can use to improve your own space.
  • A team of energetic, respectful, and friendly coworkers.
  • A few more perks that we keep secret! (Though you can expect some fun events, company branded apparel, and a variety of fun opportunities!)
