About the Team

The Business Intelligence Team at Policy Reporter focuses on creating high-impact dynamic data tables and visualizations to support drawing insights on the U.S. healthcare landscape for a diverse portfolio of clients. Leading pharmaceutical, medical device, and diagnostics companies use these visualizations to navigate complex challenges and strategically plan for the future. The team also transforms raw data into clear, impactful insights that support strategic decision‑making across departments, building scalable and interactive dashboards with AWS QuickSight for Commercial Operations, Product, and Operations teams.

Position Summary

The Business Intelligence Team Leader is a player‑coach role split between leadership and project delivery. The BI Team Lead oversees day‑to‑day workflows, tracks team performance, and collaborates with the Director of Research and Business Intelligence to set the team's direction. The ideal candidate has leadership experience and subject‑matter expertise in BI platforms (AWS QuickSight preferred).

Role & Responsibilities
  • Lead the BI Team and serve as the main representative of the team.
  • Support the priorities and strategic objectives of the organization.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture.
  • Line‑manage team members, monitor performance, and develop individual capabilities.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to the team.
  • Handle administrative tasks such as managing projects, daily workloads, PTO, and writing performance reviews.
  • Serve as a professional representative and subject‑matter expert, advocating BI Team interests in cross‑departmental meetings.
  • Govern team activities, including tracking projects and tasks against capacity, setting quality standards and delivery KPIs, and defining key improvement areas.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Research and Business Intelligence to identify future opportunities for the BI team.
  • Build and maintain templated dashboards in AWS QuickSight.
  • Enhance existing dashboards for clarity, speed, and functionality.
  • Design data visualizations that effectively communicate trends and insights.
  • Validate data sources and ensure accuracy and integrity in all reports.
  • Monitor dashboard performance to guarantee quick load times and reliable functionality.
  • Automate report delivery to reduce manual effort and support real‑time insights.
  • Gather reporting and dashboard requirements from Commercial Operations, Project Management, Product, and Operations teams.
  • Support customization of dashboards based on specific client needs and data access levels.
  • Communicate findings and trends to stakeholders in a clear, data‑driven manner.
  • Assist with data collection, integration, and transformation tasks.
  • Stay current on new AWS QuickSight features and best practices in BI and data visualization.
Skills & Qualifications
Must‑Have Qualifications
  • 5 years of experience in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, or a related field, including building dashboards and reports for business or clients.
  • 1 year of experience leading or mentoring a BI or analytics team.
  • Strong proficiency with at least one major BI platform (AWS QuickSight preferred; Power BI or Tableau acceptable).
  • Hands‑on experience designing, maintaining, and optimizing interactive dashboards that translate complex datasets into actionable insights.
  • Solid understanding of data querying (SQL), data validation, and performance optimization principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, track deliverables, and uphold quality standards across multiple projects.
  • Strong communication skills, able to gather requirements from non‑technical stakeholders and translate them into BI deliverables.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
Nice‑to‑Have Qualifications
  • Experience with the AWS data stack (Athena, Glue, Redshift, data lakes, or similar).
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Prior experience managing performance reviews, workload planning, or team metrics.
  • Familiarity with automated reporting or real‑time analytics pipelines.
  • Experience supporting pharmaceutical, medical device, or healthcare‑related data projects.
