Job summary

McCarthy Tétrault is seeking a Business Development Specialist to provide strategic support for marketing, business development and client plans. The role collaborates with practice groups, industries, markets and strategic issues teams to enhance the firm’s market profile.

Based in Toronto, Calgary, Montreal or Vancouver with a hybrid work model, the candidate will execute go-to-market strategies, help manage sponsorships, submissions and marketing materials, and analyze competitive

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in marketing, communications or related field.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience, preferably in a professional services firm.
  • Proficiency with MS Office; Salesforce and SharePoint an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic support and recommendations for marketing, business development, and client plans for various practice, industry, markets and strategic issues groups.
  • Assist with the execution of go-to-market strategies and targeting initiatives.
  • Lead and/or provide support for the execution of business development initiatives, including sponsorships, speaking engagements, directory and client award submissions, creating and maintaining marketing materials, and other duties as required.
  • Work with Research, Client Service & Innovation (CSI) and Finance to compile and analyze competitive and business intelligence reports to assist with business development opportunities for practice/industry/client groups.
  • Support lawyer and Clients & Markets team with client requests for firm information, such as credentials packages, info sheets and deal lists.
  • Identify and submit significant matters to the Deals & Cases team on an ongoing basis for use in proposals, rankings, website, awards submissions and marketing materials.
  • Track business development and marketing activity/information in a variety of databases, including Salesforce.
  • Support our Net Promoter Score (NPS) process to collect and track important feedback from our clients.
  • Support the Marketing Solutions team, including routing requests to the appropriate functional teams, assisting with lawyer profile updates, and/or other services as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Salary Range

(Toronto or Vancouver): $70,000 - $92,000 annually

The offered salary may vary based on the candidate’s job‑specific knowledge, skills, and experience.

This role supports and collaborates with Clients & Markets Leads, including Directors, Managers, other Specialists, and Coordinators as they work with practice, industry, markets and strategic issues groups to increase market profile, deepen client relationships, expand the work we do with our existing clients and attract new clients.

As a Business Development Specialist, you will be:
  • Providing strategic support and recommendations for the development of marketing, business development, and client plans for various practice, industry, markets and strategic issues groups.
  • Assisting with the execution of go-to-market strategies and targeting initiatives.
  • Leading and/or providing support for the execution of business development initiatives, including sponsorships, speaking engagements, directory and client award submissions, creating and maintaining marketing materials, and other duties as required.

As our ideal candidate, you will distinguish yourself by the following profile:
  • Undergraduate degree in marketing, communications or related field.
  • Minimum 3-5 years relevant experience, preferably in a professional services firm.
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite; ability to quickly learn and leverage new technology solutions. Experience working with Salesforce and SharePoint an asset.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent organizational skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and set priorities with challenging deadlines.
  • Ability to complete designated tasks in a systematic and logical way, with great attention to detail.
  • Professional maturity including strong interpersonal skills, tact and discretion.
  • Ability to work in a demanding, fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable
