Summary

Equans is seeking an experienced Business Development Director to drive the growth of our Energy and Sustainability solutions as well as our Integrated Facility Management (IFM) services in Ontario. The role requires a seasoned sales professional with a strong track record in selling complex energy efficiency, decarbonization, and performance‑based solutions, particularly within the public institutional and manufacturing sectors. The successful candidate will effectively present EQUANS’s value proposition to C-level executives, covering the full sales cycle—from lead generation to contract negotiation and closing.

Description
  • Strategic Market Development: Build and maintain strong executive‑level relationships, identify and qualify new opportunities, and expand market presence through targeted prospecting, sales interviews, and participation in key industry events.
  • Executive Value Proposition: Prepare and deliver compelling commercial offers focused on energy efficiency, decarbonization, energy performance contracting (EPC), and facility management, clearly articulating financial performance, ROI, risk mitigation, and total cost of ownership.
  • Solution & Value Selling: Clearly differentiate EQUANS through outcome‑driven solutions, energy efficiency, decarbonization, and energy performance contracting (EPC), lifecycle optimization, deep energy expertise, and integrated facility management approaches aligned with client business objectives.
  • Customer‑Centric Approach: Actively listen to client challenges and objectives across financial, operational, regulatory, and environmental dimensions, and respond with tailored, high‑value solutions grounded in strong financial and business acumen.
  • Account & Pipeline Management: Develop and support strategic account plans, lead execution of action plans, and maintain a robust, accurate pipeline aligned with annual sales targets and growth objectives.
  • Proposal Leadership & Contract Negotiation: Lead proposal development, pricing strategy, and contract negotiations; address objections, manage risk, and close complex, multi‑stakeholder opportunities while ensuring internal alignment.
  • Cross‑Functional Leadership: Lead internal pursuit teams and collaborate closely with energy specialists, sustainability experts, operations, construction management, finance, and legal to deliver integrated, high‑impact proposals.
  • CRM & Sales Governance: Leverage CRM tools to plan, track, and document sales activities, ensuring disciplined pipeline management and reliable forecasting.
  • Client Relationship Oversight: Guide client engagements from initial contact through successful handover to Operations, acting as the client’s internal advocate to ensure alignment, expectation management, and long‑term value delivery.
  • Market & Industry Intelligence: Stay current on market trends, competitive dynamics, regulatory changes, and industry best practices to engage clients with credibility and insight.
  • Brand & Industry Representation: Represent EQUANS at industry events, conferences, and professional associations to strengthen brand visibility and support lead generation.
Requirements
  • Authorization to work in Canada.
  • Eligibility to pass a security screening.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field (MBA considered an asset).
  • 5–10 years of relevant experience in strategic business development, with a proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets.
  • 5+ years of sales experience, selling to senior executive and C‑suite stakeholders.
  • Strong preference for experience selling energy efficiency, decarbonization, or performance‑based contracts.
  • Strategic thinker able to address complex business challenges and deliver results.
  • Familiarity with energy conservation, sustainability, district energy, and digital solutions (an asset).
  • Knowledge of Healthcare market segments is an asset.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with strong problem‑solving skills and solid business acumen.
  • Results‑driven, self‑starter comfortable working autonomously.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and MS Office applications.
  • Certifications (assets):
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
  • CEM, CMVP, CBCP or similar credentials.
