A consulting firm is seeking an experienced Business Data Modeler to support clients with enterprise data model design across Finance, Marketing, and HR domains. The ideal candidate should have over 7 years of experience, strong domain expertise, and proficiency in SQL and Azure data platforms. This is a fully remote position for 6 months with potential for extension.
We are seeking an experienced Business Data Modeler to support our consulting‑sector client in designing, structuring, and optimizing enterprise data models across Finance, Marketing, and HR domains.
The ideal candidate brings strong domain expertise, excellent requirement-gathering and logical design capabilities, and hands‑on experience working within modern data ecosystems—particularly Azure Databricks, Delta Lake, and Azure Data Lake.
This role requires a blend of business understanding and technical proficiency to translate complex business processes into scalable, accurate, and well‑documented data models.
Partner with business stakeholders across Finance, Marketing, and HR to understand processes, data flows, and reporting requirements.
Translate business concepts into conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
Ensure alignment between business requirements, technical solutions, and data governance standards.
Develop and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models (ERDs, data flow diagrams, canonical models).
Apply best practices including normalization/denormalization, star/snowflake schemas, and optimized design for analytics/reporting.
Support the consolidation of complex source systems (e.g., SAP, Salesforce, PeopleSoft) into integrated enterprise models.
Document data models, definitions, relationships, and lineage for both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Lead structured requirement‑gathering sessions with SMEs and technical teams.
Produce functional and technical documentation including BRDs, FRDs, Logical Design Documents, and metadata definitions.
Communicate models and requirements clearly to engineering, analytics, and business teams.
Write and optimize complex SQL queries to support data profiling, transformation logic, and validation.
Conduct data quality assessments and ensure compliance with governance, audit, and regulatory requirements.
Work with modern data platforms including:
Azure Databricks, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Azure Data Lake
SAP Finance/S4 (optional)
Salesforce CRM (optional)
PeopleSoft HR (optional)
Participate in data integration, metadata management, reference data harmonization, and enterprise information management initiatives.
7+ years of experience in data modeling, data analysis, or business data architecture.
Strong domain knowledge in at least one of the following:
Finance (GL, WIP, Time & Expense, AR, vendor accounting; SAP Finance preferred)
Marketing Analytics (client analytics, campaigns, sales pipeline; Salesforce familiarity preferred)
HR/People Management (staffing, utilization, workforce planning; PeopleSoft familiarity preferred)
Proven experience creating conceptual/logical/physical data models.
Proficiency in SQL for data exploration and validation.
Experience with Databricks or similar cloud data platforms.
Strong understanding of data quality, data lineage, metadata, and compliance.
Experience with Azure cloud services.
Familiarity with enterprise reporting systems, CDS views, or BW/4HANA.
Exposure to enterprise data warehouse modeling and integration patterns.
Strong documentation skills and ability to communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences.
Location: Fully Remote
Duration: 6 Months (Strong Possibility of Extension)
