About the Role:

Reporting to the Associate Director, Enrolment Systems & Compliance, the Business Analyst supports the systems maintenance and operations portfolio to ensure quality customer service and information needs. This position provides system administration and analysis services for the Registrar’s Office. The Business Analyst acts as a subject matter expert regarding Registrar’s Office systems providing operational and technical support internal and external to the Office.

The Business Analyst applies design and documentation techniques to define business challenges and uses professional experience and analytical methods to identify and evaluate feasible courses of action. The position designs and tests practical solutions, documents the best course(s) of action for managerial review and assists in the implementation of the selected solution.

The Business Analyst will:
  • Act as primary administrator for Registrar’s Office systems, ensuring effective configuration, maintenance, security, and data integrity;
  • Partner with campus partners and ITS to support system enhancements, integrations, and continuous improvement of business processes;
  • Support the Associate Director with design, development and identification of specifications for system integrations, working as lead or as part of a team to enhance and streamline integrations with existing University systems;
  • Provide technical expertise and advice related to reporting, system security and access, enhancements, prioritization, and project planning in collaboration with the Associate Director;
  • Analyze business requests and existing system functionality to recommend best-practice solutions for the SIS, academic calendar, and student-related applications;
  • Provide data analysis as appropriate, directing solution design of end‑user reports, technology solutions for operational problems, and production of reports and queries;
  • Support the Associate Director with all reporting functions, including but not limited to, Ministry enrolment reporting, Faculty reporting for the Ontario College of Teachers, and Designated Learning Institute reporting to Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (i.e., capture data, upload, report, audit, elevate discrepancies, etc.);
  • Extract, validate and submit data files to populate Ontario Council on Articulation and Transfer (ONCAT) for e‑campus website as the main point of contact for relations between ONCAT and Brock;
  • Act as a first level escalation point for technical/system-related questions from Registrar’s Office staff;
  • Create reports and assist all Registrar’s Office units with system changes, documentation, and technical support throughout academic life cycle of student from application to graduation and advise and provide operational and technical support to ensure effective understanding and application of systems and processes; and
  • Provide operational and technical service and support to teams and departments external to the Registrar’s Office (e.g. SAFA, FGSPA, Academic Advising, etc.) while working with campus teams and ITS partners to improve business processes and system enhancements (i.e., sharing expertise, advising of workflows, testing of implementation, etc.).
Key Skills and Experience:
  • Undergraduate degree in a related technology field (i.e., Mathematics, Information Technology, Data Analytics etc.) or equivalent combination of education and experience would be considered;
  • Business systems analysis experience including demonstrated experience with an enterprise student information systems and technology projects;
  • Experience with data analysis, process analysis, IT business support, including configuring and implementing systems, extracting and analyzing data using database tools and designing and developing integrations;
  • Exceptional computer proficiency including MS Office, particularly Excel, database, hardware, security, system testing, web solutions and support and troubleshooting of systems and software;
  • Strong understanding of, and ability to use, object oriented and database programming languages, including but not limited to, SQL, Web Services, XML, XSLT, or other integration technologies;
  • Ability to design, develop, and implement custom integrations and web pages;
  • Knowledge and understanding of project management principles and FIPPA legislation;
  • Promotes and embodies inclusivity and respect within the workplace and the broader community;
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, time management, and problem solving skills; and
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new software and continuously develop new technical skills.
Preferred or Asset Skills:
  • Graduate degree in a related field;
  • Work experience with SAS and Excel VBA, Microsoft SharePoint and database software;
  • Experience working with Information Management Systems;
  • Completion of courses in Business Analysis or a related discipline, or the Canadian Business Analyst Professional (CBAP) certification; and
  • Experience in the broader public or University sector.
Salary and Total Rewards:
  • Job Grade K, Salary Scale ($61,286 - $99,384);
  • Target Hiring Range: $61,286 - $63,000 *
  • This is a permanent position that includes:

*The final salary is based on experience, internal equity, and budget considerations within the target hiring range.
