Job summary

Sagamok Anishnawbek is seeking a Bus Monitor to help ensure the safety and well-being of students during school bus transportation. Working under the Bus Driver and Vice-Principal, you will support boarding, exiting, and maintaining a calm, orderly environment.

The role requires strong communication, patience, and respect for Anishnawek culture. A high school diploma, experience with children, CPIC within six months, and basic first aid are preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with children is an asset.
  • Training in child safety and emergency response is an advantage.
  • Respect for Anishnawbek culture, traditions, and the Seven Grandfather Teachings.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to manage student behaviour effectively.
  • Basic First Aid and CPR knowledge is preferred.
  • Clear CPIC (Criminal Records Check) valid within the last 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Wear and maintain required Personal Protective Equipment (e.g., reflective vest).
  • Assist children with safely boarding and exiting the bus.
  • Support with pre-trip and post-trip bus inspections.
  • Maintain order, enforce safety rules, and provide assistance during emergency situations.
  • Foster a safe and respectful environment for all students on the bus.
  • Collaborate with school officials and transportation staff to ensure a positive bus experience.
  • Provide guidance and support to students, including those with special needs or behavioural challenges.
  • Communicate with the Bus Driver and Vice-Principal regarding student behaviour and safety concerns.
  • Prepare and submit Bus Incident Forms when required.
  • Participate in training sessions to remain current on safety procedures and emergency protocols.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Bus Monitor plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of students during school bus transportation. Working under the supervision of the assigned Bus Driver and Vice-Principal, the Bus Monitor provides support to students, assists with boarding and exiting, and helps maintain a safe, respectful, and orderly environment on the bus.

POSITION DUTIES:
  • Wear and maintain required Personal Protective Equipment (e.g., reflective vest).
  • Assist children with safely boarding and exiting the bus.
  • Support with pre-trip and post-trip bus inspections.
  • Maintain order, enforce safety rules, and provide assistance during emergency situations.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
  • Six (6) month probationary period.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and safety training.
