The Building, Stops and Structures Worker is responsible for carrying out planned upkeep and cleaning of all buildings on all light rail system infrastructure assets.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience :
- A High School Diploma, or equivalent, is desired.
- Ideally, a minimum of 1 year of commercial or residential cleaning experience.
- Experience working in a warehouse or manufacturing setting
- Must have a clean criminal background check
- Valid G driver's license
- Must possess physical ability to perform all cleaning / janitorial tasks (walk, bend, reach, stand and carry items for some extended periods), able to lift up to 51 lbs.
- Must have the ability to perform outlined tasks with minimum supervision.
- Must be self‑motivated
- Communication skills in the English language (oral and written)
- Knowledge of H & S procedures and legislative requirements, including WHMIS
- Knowledge of standard methods, practices, tools, and equipment of the janitorial service.
- Knowledge of the proper use of chemicals, fertilizers, and pesticides.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to operate and use janitorial tools, equipment, and supplies such as floor buffers, vacuum cleaners, and cleaning compounds and solutions.
- Knowledge of the standard methods, practices, tools, and equipment used to clean buildings and furniture.
- Knowledge of the qualities and uses of various cleaning, sanitizing, stripping, and waxing compounds.
- Knowledge of building and property security procedures.
- Ability to explain instructions and guidelines to others effectively.
- Ability to train and assign work to employees.
- Ability to prioritize the work of others.
- Ability to organize and coordinate the work of the unit.
- Be punctual and reliable.
Key Accountabilities :
- Sweeping, vacuuming and mopping of OMSF facilities.
- Daily cleaning of bathrooms, lunchrooms, offices, common areas, and Maintenance facilities.
- Emptying garbage & recycling receptacles and ensuring they are properly sorted into appropriate waste streams.
- Dusts such items as blinds, furniture, file cabinets, and windowsills using treated dust
- Scrubs, strips, sanitizes, waxes, and buffs floors using powered machines equipped with rotating brushes.
- Polishes furniture, metal work, and chrome using appropriate cleaning and polishing compounds.
- Washes walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, mirrors, and fixtures using both step and extension ladders.
- Cleans grounds and parking lots of litter, glass, or other debris.
- Loads and unloads supplies, and moves heavy furniture and equipment using dollies, Hand carts, or power equipment.
- Shampoos carpets.
- Maintains an inventory of cleaning and toiletry supplies. Responsible for maintaining various janitorial supplies for the washrooms within the facilities. Replenish / Restock all cleaning supplies when required.
- Responsible for performing ground maintenance activities, including snow and ice removal on sidewalks within the OMSF and along the alignment. Must be proficient in operating snow removal equipment and tools such as snow blowers, hand shovels, and trucks equipped with plows and salter boxes.
- Walkways, mowing small areas of grass, trimming shrubs, installing and removing fences, etc.
- Perform minor repairs, paint touch‑up up and / or replace missing hardware or facility equipment.
- Occasionally cleaning the interior of transit vehicles, including floor area, driver's compartment and stairs; sweeping and vacuuming, dusting ledges, handrails and seats, emptying garbage, reporting damage, turning in lost and found items, and restocking pamphlets.
- Pressure washing transit stops and vehicles when required.
- Clean LRT Stops, remove graffiti and meet expectations on cleanliness and appearance in accordance with company standards and procedures.
- Undertake established cleaning activities to meet predetermined targets as allocated by the Supervisor of Fixed Facilities.
- Performing major cleaning of interior walls, windows, ceilings, ledges, seats, destination signs and floors of transit vehicles by hand or using mechanical equipment; gum removal; graffiti removal
- Observes appearances and conditions of premises and equipment; repairs, safety hazards, or conditions requiring outside vendor services.
- Carry out non‑technical facility maintenance when required and as directed by the Fixed Facilities Supervisor / Manager
- Wear and maintain the provided Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) in a clean and serviceable condition.
