Job summary

BPA is a Canada-wide engineering firm focused on sustainable design and innovative structural solutions. We seek a Structural Design Engineer to lead analysis, sizing, and optimization of steel, wood, and concrete structures within a BIM (Revit) environment.

You will act as a technical reference, collaborating with engineers, drafters, and multidisciplinary teams on diverse building projects across Canada.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with structural focus.
  • Active membership in the OIQ or eligible for registration.
  • 6–10 years of Canadian building structural design experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design and size building structures in concrete, steel and wood.
  • Perform advanced structural analyses using ETABS, SAP2000 and SAFE.
  • Develop economical structural concepts meeting Canadian codes.
  • Coordinate with MEP, architects, and BIM teams for integrated designs.
  • Contribute to retrofit and renovation projects in existing buildings.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and drafters.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Structural Design Engineer who is passionate about in-depth structural design and technical challenges. The role is primarily focused on the analysis, sizing, and optimization of steel, wood, and concrete structures within a BIM (Revit) environment, for a variety of building projects.

The successful candidate will act as a technical reference in design, working closely with other engineers, drafters, and multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities
  • Design and size building structures in reinforced concrete, steel, and wood
  • Perform advanced structural analyses using ETABS, SAP2000, and SAFE
  • Develop efficient, economical structural concepts that comply with Canadian standards
  • Experience working in existing buildings and retrofit projects.
  • Ensure technical coordination of projects with internal (mechanical, electrical, etc.) and external stakeholders (architects, clients, etc.)
  • Develop and validate design assumptions, analytical models, and load cases
  • Actively participate in preliminary and detailed design phases
  • Contribute to solving complex structural challenges (renovations, existing constraints, phasing, etc.)
  • Ensure the technical quality of deliverables (drawings, calculation notes, specifications)
  • Collaborate with the BIM team to ensure structural integration in Revit
  • Provide technical support to junior engineers (EITs) and drafters
  • Occasionally participate in technical discussions with clients and partners
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
Technological Environment
  • Analysis software: ETABS, SAP2000, SAFE
  • Modeling and coordination: Revit Structure (BIM)
  • Standards and codes: CCQ, CSA (A23.3, S16, O86, etc.)
Desired Profile
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering with a structural focus. Graduate-level courses in building structures (reinforced concrete, dynamic analysis, seismic design, etc.) are considered an asset
  • Member in good standing of the OIQ
  • 6 to 10 years of experience in structural design of buildings in Canada
  • Excellent technical expertise in steel, concrete, and wood
  • Strong experience in numerical structural analysis
  • Rigorous, analytical, and solution-oriented approach
  • Ability to work on complex projects with a strong conceptual component
  • Technical autonomy combined with an appreciation for collaborative work
  • Excellent command of French

  • Strong involvement in structural decision-making during the conceptual phase
  • Interest in innovation, optimization, and high-performance structures
  • Experience in a collaborative BIM environment
