Job summary

Canucks Sports & Entertainment is seeking a Building Operator for Rogers Arena in Vancouver. You will participate in preventative maintenance, install and operate the ice sheet, lighting, HVAC and refrigeration systems, and support venues during events.

The role requires ice facility certificates and experience with ice maintenance and building systems. Shifts include evenings/weekends per event schedule; onsite work at Rogers Arena with a strong customer service focus.

Qualifications

• Ice facility certificates required or preferred as listed in the description.
• Experience with ice surface creation/maintenance and Zamboni operation.
• Experience troubleshooting HVAC, mechanical and plumbing systems.
• Ability to work flexible hours including evenings/weekends per event schedule.
• Strong customer service focus and teamwork; good communication with staff/guests.

Responsibilities

• Participate in preventative maintenance for HVAC, refrigeration, and building equipment.
• Participate in ice sheet installation, maintenance and operation as directed.
• Operate lighting, HVAC, refrigeration and related equipment.
• Inspect and adjust HVAC controls and schedules.
• Inspect and adjust refrigeration plant operation, including start-up/shut-down.
• Coordinate with staff, clients and contractors to complete tasks.
• Assist with inventory controls for maintenance parts and supplies.
• Provide event-related support for building systems.

Wage Rate: $43.90/hour

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Building Operator will participate in all aspects of Rogers Arena’s preventative maintenance program and installation and operation of the ice sheet. This includes lighting, HVAC, refrigeration, and all other related equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned as required)

• Participate in all aspects of the preventative maintenance program for HVAC, refrigeration, and other building mechanical equipment
• Participate in all aspects of installation, maintenance, and operation of ice sheet as directed
• Operate lighting, HVAC, refrigeration, and all related equipment
• Operate, inspect, and adjust HVAC controls and schedules as directed
• Operate, inspect, and adjust refrigeration plant operation, including start-up and shut-down of plant and related equipment
• Liaise with in-house technical staff, internal and external clients, and contract trades people to ensure efficient operation and completion of assigned tasks
• Assist with inventory controls for all maintenance parts and supplies related to the physical plant and building operation
• Provide event-related support for all building systems

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ice Facility Operator Certificate required
• Fourth Class Power Engineers Certificate or Refrigeration Operator Certificate preferred
• Knowledge of automated building control systems, computer systems or equipment-related experience
• Experience in making and maintaining ice surfaces, including experience driving a Zamboni or Olympia
• Experience in troubleshooting HVAC, Mechanical & Plumbing issues
• Experience in performing minor repairs to HVAC, Mechanical and Plumbing systems with appropriate tools.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by Rogers Arena event schedule
• Solid team player with a strong customer service focus
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to deal effectively with all levels of staff, guests, promoters, clients, corporate partners, and supplier contractors
• Ability to take initiative and work well under minimal supervision
• Superior organizational skills and attention to detail
• Onsite role at Rogers Arena
