Job summary

Randstad Canada is recruiting for a hands‑on Manufacturing Engineer in the Calgary area to bridge product development, operations, and quality. The position is full‑time with responsibilities spanning NPI, sustaining engineering, root‑cause analysis, and supplier collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required.
  • 5–10+ years hands‑on manufacturing or sustaining engineering experience.
  • Experience in commercial/architectural lighting or electromechanical environments preferred.
  • Strong leadership, mentorship, and cross‑functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical reviews, mentor junior engineers, and manage engineering queue aligned with business priorities.
  • Own manufacturing readiness for NPI from design through pilot builds and full production ramp‑up.
  • Perform root cause analyses, containment plans, and permanent corrective actions for field or factory issues.
  • Identify and implement cost‑reduction opportunities without sacrificing quality and aesthetics.
  • Ensure design changes comply with certification bodies (UL/CSA/ETL) prior to implementation.

Our growing, Calgary area client is an innovative designer and manufacturer of premium architectural-lighting solutions. They are seeking a hands-on, highly skilled Manufacturing Engineer to bridge the gap between product development, operations, and quality. In this technical leadership role, you will play a critical part in strengthening factory capability, optimizing production, driving value engineering, and ensuring flawless product launches and ongoing sustaining execution.

Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Manage the engineering queue against core business priorities. Lead technical reviews, mentor junior engineering colleagues, transfer legacy-product knowledge, and proactively elevate resource or technical risks.
  • New Product Introduction (NPI): Own manufacturing readiness from early design stages through pilot builds and full production ramp‑up. Coordinate BOMs, routings, tooling, fixtures, assembly methods, inspection/test plans, and operator training to hit release gates.
  • Sustaining Engineering & Root Cause Analysis: Lead technical assessments for released products, manage component obsolescence, and execute supplier modifications. Direct root‑cause analyses, containment plans, permanent corrective actions, and post‑implementation effectiveness checks for field or factory issues.
  • Value Engineering (VAVE): Identify and implement cost‑reduction opportunities across components, materials, processes, tooling, and architectures without compromising quality, aesthetic standards, performance, or compliance. Validate savings with Finance.
  • Design Verification & Compliance: Perform tolerance analyses, DFM/DFA reviews, prototyping, and testing across mechanical, thermal, optical, electrical, and control systems. Work with compliance owners and certification bodies (e.g., UL, CSA, ETL) prior to implementing design changes.
  • Product Data Management (ECO/ECN): Maintain CAD models, technical drawings, specifications, ERP BOMs, assembly instructions, and incoming quality criteria. Enforce robust change control via ECO/ECN procedures, ensuring revision traceability and inventory transition management.
  • Supplier Collaboration & Custom Feasibility: Work closely with vendors on component sourcing, tool design, and supplier quality issues. Assess feasibility, cost, lead time, and compliance impact for custom client modifications, releasing approved configurations to production.
  • Technical Escalations & Returns (RMA Support): Provide expert technical analysis for complex field returns and customer escalations. Conduct failure analysis on returned products to identify trends and inform warranty determinations.
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software, tolerance stack‑up analysis, and DFM/DFA principles.
  • Demonstrated experience managing ERP systems, BOM structures, and ECO/ECN processes.
  • Solid background in thermal, mechanical, optical, and electrical integration.
  • Problem‑Solving & Leadership: Proven track record in structured root‑cause problem solving (e.g., 8D, 5 Whys), supplier development, and cross‑functional team leadership/mentoring
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or Mechatronics Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Professional Licensure: Appropriate APEGA registration (P.Eng. or eligible) required for independent engineering practice.
  • Experience: Typically 5-10+ years of hands‑on experience in manufacturing or sustaining engineering within a product‑development environment.
  • Industry Background: Strong preference for experience in commercial/architectural lighting, electrical fixtures, or similar electromechanical manufacturing environments.
