What You’ll Do

As a Blaster, you will be a part of a blast crew in quarry blasting operations throughout New Brunswick. This position involves but is not limited to the following tasks:

  • Conduct blast site hazard assessments to ensure the blast site is a safe work environment for all involved.
  • Provide supervision to all blast site assigned employees.
  • Take part in all blast site activities (priming charges, loading bulk products, stemming, hookup and initiation of the blast).
  • Assist in shot design/layout and all preplanning activities.
  • Ensure that all equipment to be used in that operation is in good operating condition, including vehicles used for delivery of explosives products.
  • Ensure that all regulations, both federally (TDG, Explosives Act, Bulk Regulations, WHIMIS) and provincially (Blasting Safety and OH&S Regulations) are adhered to by all personnel on your crew.
  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date inventory of all products (explosive and non-explosive).
  • Ensuring that company policies, safe work instructions, hazard analysis, and standard are up-to-date and followed by crew members.
What We’re Looking For:
  • Minimum educational requirements: Grade school diploma, Trade related education or extensive experience in the related fields.
  • Provincial Blasting License Class I or II (NS or NB) or able to acquire based on experience.
  • Basic computer skills and an ability to communicate effectively in the terminology related to the field in the form of verbal and written reports.
  • Good physical condition is required with the ability to repeatedly handle 25 kilogram units.
  • Class 5 Drivers License. Class 3 with air brakes considered an asset.
