Job summary

PharmEng Technology in Toronto, Ontario, seeks an experienced HVAC Design Engineer to lead design, sizing, and documentation for biotech facility projects. You will review P&IDs, equipment specs, and qualification protocols while supporting CQV activities on site.

Ideal candidates have 7+ years in HVAC design for biotech with ISO 8 standards, strong calculations background, and familiarity with FDA/Health Canada regulatory expectations.

Qualifications

• Mechanical, Chemical, or Process engineering skills with 6–10 years of experience.
• 7+ years in HVAC design for biotech facilities with ISO 8 standards.
• Experience in process engineering calculations, equipment sizing, specs, flow diagrams, and P&IDs.
• Design of mechanical piping, skids, components, and layouts.
• Ability to understand, verify, and mark-up engineering design documents (P&IDs, electrical drawings, specs).
• Understanding of cGMP, GDP, and regulatory requirements (FDA, Health Canada, EU).
• Understanding of PCS, DCS, MES, PLCs, and Historian systems in manufacturing.
• Familiarity with validation per ASTM E2500 (risk-based).
• Training and development of junior staff.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English; clear client communication.
• Professional and courteous client interaction.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office to prepare engineering docs.
• Valid driver’s license and car owner.

Responsibilities

• Review equipment, components, and instrumentation for client standards and integration.
• Define process and equipment system boundaries.
• Review calculations, sizing, P&IDs, layouts, and data sheets.
• Review specifications including URS, FDS, and DDS.
• Review BIM models and approve shop drawings.
• Review commissioning and qualification protocols.
• Support risk assessments for safety and quality.
• Assist startup and CQV activities on site.
• Prepare reports and oversee installation and start-up.
• Perform field troubleshooting at client sites.
• Work at client sites as needed.
