Bioprocess Development Scientist - VIE Contract

  • Location: Canada, Toronto
  • Target start date: 01/03/2026

About the job

As Bioprocess Development Scientist VIE within our Vaccines team, you’ll be responsible for specific scientific, technical aspects of assigned projects to ensure that objectives are met, plan and execute process and product development activities including developing, improving, scaling‑up processes within the Platform, ensuring scientific and technical excellence.

This role contains adherence to advanced technical standards and compliance with GxP status of work.

Main responsibilities
  • Perform experimental and processing tasks, and ensure compliance with GxP and other quality and documentation requirements, such as preparation of SOPs, BPRs and reports.
  • Prepare internal and external presentations, research manuscripts and review articles as required.
  • Share information and harmonize development within VDSD and other departments.
  • Support the development of scalable bioreactor process for vaccine candidates including the selection of operating mode (batch, fed batch, continuous, biphasic, etc) and conditions for production scales of up to 300 L, selection of scalable primary recovery approaches for bioreactor harvest concentration, cell disruption, and product recovery using combinations of filtration and centrifugation.
  • Use of analytical methods for measuring cell densities, culture medium analysis, protein analysis, immunological detection of proteins (ELISA, Western blotting, etc), HPLC.
  • Application of biochemical engineering principles including mass and heat transfer, fluid dynamics, process control, process simulation and modelling, and equipment design.
  • Use of advanced computer software to support bioreactor process control and data acquisition, DOE, process modelling and simulations, computational fluid dynamics, and experimental data analysis.

Experience
  • Previous laboratory experience is mandatory.
  • Previous Bioprocessing experience would be an advantage.
Soft and technical skills
  • In depth knowledge of experimental work and data analysis.
  • Able to support the development of protein purification processes using various chromatography and membrane‑based approaches would be an asset.
  • Strong scientific presentation and writing skills in English.
  • Working knowledge of computer skills, scientific writing and presentations, and innovative thinking.
  • Willingness to learn.
Education
  • Master’s Degree in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biochemical Engineering or similar field.
Languages
  • Proficiency in English language.
