Overview

Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Main Function

To provide a safe environment for all patients and staff through the application of approved engineering concepts and repair methods relative to systems used in patient care areas.

Position Overview

Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Responsibilities

The Biomedical Engineering Technologist is responsible for daily technical support activities related to equipment and devices used within the clinical, allied health, and/or support service departments to which they are assigned. The major responsibility is ensuring that all complex medical devices used are maintained at a high degree of efficiency to ensure effective, safe care of the patient and safe use for the operator.

Experience
  • Prior experience directly related to Clinical or Biomedical Engineering preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Graduation from an Electronics Technology or specific Biomedical Engineering Technology program from an accredited education institution required.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Registration with CTTAM (Certified Technicians and Technologists Association of Manitoba Inc.) required.
  • Registration as student, technician, or provisional technologist member may be considered.
  • Must have, or obtain within six months of completion of experience eligibility requirement, certification as an Engineering Technologist by CTTAM (Certified Technicians and Technologists Association of Manitoba Inc.).
  • Certification as a Certified Biomedical Engineering Technologist (CBET(c)) with The Canadian Board of Examiners for Biomedical Engineering Technologists and Technicians would be an asset.
Qualifications And Skills
  • Working knowledge of plumbing, hydraulics and/or electronic installations is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology; may be obtained via coursework or self-study if not previously possessed.
  • Good English communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, ability to grasp concepts quickly, and a strong customer service focus.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work under pressure and make sound judgments.
  • Proficiency in PC use and office productivity software (word processor, spreadsheet, database).
  • LEADS in a Caring Environment framework familiarity is noted as part of provincial health system adoption.
Physical Requirements
  • Walking long distances, long periods of standing, and lifting equipment, supplies, parts, etc. (approximately 25 kg).
  • Ability to work with small delicate instrumentation requiring manual dexterity and normal vision, with or without correction.
  • May be exposed to solvents and chemicals used in electronic maintenance.
  • May travel throughout the service area requiring a valid Manitoba driver’s license and use of a personal motor vehicle.
