Job description

We’re seeking a Project Leader for our Douglas Point and Gentilly locations to develop long-term decommissioning plans for Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) reactors. In this role, you’ll oversee the execution of crucial activities like characterization, engineering, and cost estimates. What will you be doing!

  • Leading the delivery of medium-risk decommissioning projects, ensuring objectives are met to the satisfaction of clients.
  • Planning, budgeting, and resource allocation; may lead 3-4 projects totaling $5M to $10M annually over 3-5 years.
  • Assembling project teams, including planning coordinators, and defining project scope and costs.
  • Supporting the Project Manager in defining scope, priorities, and responsibilities.
  • Monitoring project progress through regular team meetings and updates.
  • Motivating team members to meet quality, scope, and cost constraints.
  • Securing resources from functional managers for project execution.
  • Managing project scope, risks, and deliverables within estimated timelines and budgets, and informing management of issues.
  • Assisting in establishing budgets and schedules, and approving scope changes.
  • Reporting on project performance to stakeholders.
  • Leading the delivery of project objectives, setting performance goals, and providing feedback.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

What we are looking for:

  • Education: Bachelor’s in Engineering or Science, or membership in a recognized professional organization, or equivalent certification in project management.
  • Experience: At least five years in project management within reactor operations or nuclear decommissioning, with knowledge of reactor components and design.
  • Knowledge of project lifecycle phases and applying project management processes.
  • Experience with nine project management areas within medium-risk projects and understanding of regulatory frameworks and standards.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Developing and leading project plans.
  • Defining scope, setting priorities, managing risks, and monitoring performance.
  • Organizing work of moderate teams to achieve deliverables.
  • Building cooperative relationships with internal and external contacts.
  • Knowledge of team management, project planning, budgeting, procurement, and negotiation.
  • Understanding of contract administration, decommissioning, and safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of radiation protection principles and contamination control.

Security Clearance Eligibility:

  • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), requiring 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the US, or UK.

Working Conditions:

  • Office environment with regular computer work.
  • Site visits requiring safety equipment and adherence to safety policies.
  • Minimal supervision, self-motivated work approach.
  • Extended hours and occasional travel may be required.
