Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre is seeking an Interpreter to provide bilingual interpretation for patients and families, ensuring comprehension and effective communication across language and cultural barriers.

The role supports bi-directional interpretation to optimize patient care, care planning and service delivery for First Nation clients in the health centre. Flexibility to work rotating day and night shifts is required.

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written in English).
  • Fluent in Sioux Lookout area First Nation languages (Cree, Oji-Cree, Swampy Cree, Ojibway) required.
  • Proficiency in the interpretive process.

Responsibilities

  • Provide bi-directional interpreting services to patients, residents, family and all service providers.
  • Articulate and report information accurately to convey questions and messages per risk management directives.
  • Maintain accurate daily records on service requests and provision of services.
  • Be willing to work assigned shifts including 8- and 12-hour day/night rotations.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all matters related to client care and visitor issues.
  • Adhere to organizational policies including infection control measures.
