Job summary

Qualifications

  • Minimum two-year college diploma or university degree in a relevant field such as Behaviour Science, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Child Studies, Education, Psychology, Social Work or Sociology.
  • Two years of related experience with children/youth with high special education needs, especially Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Preferred post-graduate program in Autism and Behavioural Sciences or degrees in Behavioural Science Technology; BCaBA qualifications are advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct student support using applied behaviour analysis principles.
  • Participate in planning sessions and implement program plans.
  • Support the completion of functional behavioural assessments (FBA) and monitor progress.
  • Implement behaviour management systems such as BMS and CPI-NVCI.
  • Provide modelling and coaching to school teams and ABA program delivery.

BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT WORKER

The Simcoe County District School Board is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Behaviour Support Worker. Reporting to the Principals of Special Educationand Senior Psychologist/Manager of Clinical Services, the successful candidate will provide direct student support through the application of the principals of applied behaviour analysis and related services to students in school and community settings. The role includes directly supporting students displaying complex behavioural needs (including the ability to implement trained behaviour management systems such as BMS and/or CPI- NVCI), participation in planning sessions, implementing program plans, supporting the completion of functional behavioural assessments (FBA), monitoring progress and changing objectives as needed.

F.T.E. /SCHEDULE / HOURS

1.0 FTE Temporary

Daily - 7 hours per day.

This position will be paid an additional $2442.10 in compensation per year (prorated based on assignment length). This position will include regular contact with the Principal(s) of Special Education and the Registered Behaviour Analysts.

Salary Range: $29.19 - $33.97 per hourin accordance with the OPSEU Collective Agreement

Qualifications:

Required

  • Minimum two year college diploma in Child and Youth Worker, Development Service Worker, Educational Assistant or Social Service Worker OR a University degree in Behaviour Science in particular those who have a specialty in Autism Spectrum Disorders, Child Studies, Education, Psychology, Social Work or Sociology;
  • Two (2) years related experience working with children and youth who have high special education needs, in particular those who have an Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Preferred:
  • Completion of a one (1) year post-graduate program in Autism and Behavioural Sciences; or
  • Completion of a three (3) year program in Behavioural Science Technology; or
  • Previous Board Certified Assistant Behaviour Analyst (BCaBA) qualifications.
Pertinent Skills and Experience:
  • Excellent interpersonal, organization, and coordinating skills;
  • Good oral and written communication skills;
  • Experience directly supporting students with complex behavioural needs and implementing necessary behaviour management systems (i.e., BMS, CPI-NVCI);
  • Provide modelling and coaching for school teams and implement ABA programs as designed by Behaviour Analyst;
  • Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team with field and school staff, colleagues, teachers, service professionals, to support students;
  • Ability to use software tools to record and display behaviour data;
  • Ability to deliver professional development using a variety of media;
  • Support the completion of functional behaviour assessments, under the supervision of Behaviour Analysts;
  • Reliable transportation required;
  • The nature of this position will require travel within the Board; mileage reimbursement at the Board approved rate.
