Position Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative and experienced Behaviour Analyst to join the Extensive Needs Service, a new program for individuals up to the age of 18 whose needs cannot be met in a single service stream and who require an integrated approach across mental, behavioural and developmental health. As an integral member of the interprofessional team the Behavioural Analyst will provide trauma-informed and compassionate behaviour assessment and care plans to children, youth and families with extensive needs such as co-occurring medical, physical and developmental complexities and/or social vulnerabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Builds strong rapport with clients and families to understand their values and effectively collaborate and formulate individualized goals.
  • Ensures all behaviour assessment and treatment plans focus on safety, client and family dignity, and rapport building.
  • Designs behaviour assessment plans using relevant evidence-based tools, including practical functional analyses.
  • Creates skill-based treatment plans to support reduction of interfering behaviours through teaching contextually appropriate behaviours in collaboration with clients and families as per their goals.
  • Trains RBTs/behaviour therapists to assist in behaviour assessment and implement treatment plans.
  • Clinically supervises RBTs/behaviour therapists during implementation of treatment plans and provides supportive feedback.
  • Uses data-driven decision making to amend treatment plans in consultation with client families and the therapy team.
  • Responds to the changing needs of clients and families and demonstrates flexibility to adapt treatment plans and goals as necessary.
  • Partners with families to provide education and coaching to implement strategies and generalize skills at home and across the community.
  • Refers to other services agencies and supports as appropriate.
  • Stays familiar with current literature, issues and trends of practice.
  • Participates in regular quality improvement activities to further refine clinical practice and ensure equitable and efficient service for clients and families.
  • Shares new knowledge and best practices with colleagues, students and other professionals within the organization, professional bodies and the community.
  • Supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment and advances a culture of client/patient safety through work and daily practices.
Position Requirements
  • Board Certified Behaviour Analyst in good standing with the Behaviour Analyst Certification Board.
  • Strong knowledge and experience supporting children and youth with neuro-developmental conditions, acquired brain injuries, and mental health conditions.
  • Extensive clinical experience (minimum two years) providing behaviour analytic services to children and youth with varying abilities who engage in interfering behaviours including aggression, self-injury, property destruction, etc.
  • Ability to train and clinically supervise RBTs/behaviour therapists, with a minimum of three years experience doing so.
  • Extensive experience providing parent coaching to implement behaviour analytic strategies across environments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in practical functional analyses and skill-based treatment methods.
  • Ability to supervise staff and students working toward their BCBA certification is considered an asset.
  • Experience in an inpatient setting is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and communicate effectively with clients, families and members of the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and cooperation in dealing with change.
  • Other duties as assigned.
