Job summary

A leading visual effects company in Vancouver seeks a Rotoscope & Paint Artist with at least 3 years of experience in the industry. The ideal candidate will work on creating holdout matte elements for compositing, requiring skills in Nuke and Silhouette. This role is primarily onsite, and candidates must be residents of British Columbia. Salary ranges from $25 to $40 per hour depending on qualifications and experience. All applicants must be residents of British Columbia, Canada.

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada i.e. Citizen, PR, Open Work Permit.
Short contract: January to February 27th, 2026

At this time, we’re pleased to offer this role as an option to work from home OR work from our Vancouver studio in Gastown, close to the Waterfront Station in Downtown. Remote is not available outside of BC; there is no hybrid.

Summary of Position

The Rotoscope/Paint Artist is responsible for creating holdout matte elements for use in compositing, as well as digitally removing rigs, seams, and dust.

Job Functions
  • Review stage elements with leadership. Shot assignments will be focused on complex shots.
  • Follow up with compositors to ensure requested articulate mattes and/or paint work meets all technical and creative requirements.
  • Use rotoscope techniques in Nuke or Silhouette to generate mattes and splines.
  • Use paint and compositing techniques in Nuke to produce clean plates, remove rigs and seams or other artifacts, etc. This may involve generating pre‑comps for use by compositors or taking shots to completion.
  • Attend dailies, as necessary; receive and implement feedback.
  • Drive tasks to completion and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Oversee quality control of approved elements, publishes and handoffs for own work as well as work from more junior team members.
  • Develop and maintain training material, mentor and train more junior members of the roto/paint team.
  • Communicate delays with leads and production management via e‑mail, updating shotGrid accordingly.
  • Absorb shot work as needed, focusing on more complex shot work.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years Rotoscope/Paint experience, preferably on feature films.
  • Strong eye for composition, detail, light and color.
  • Stereoscopic experience.
  • Experience in Silhouette and Nuke (Furnace and After Effects experience, a plus).
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently.
  • Strong time management and problem‑solving skills.
Additional Information
  • British Columbia Employees Pay Range: $25 – $40/hr (the actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including qualifications, years of experience, education, certifications, and location).
  • Candidates must be located in the Lower Mainland, British Columbia. This role requires the candidate to work onsite, within our Vancouver Studio in Gastown. (Some remote work may be considered.)
  • Zoic does not cover relocation costs.
  • All remote positions require the candidate to have a reliable internet connection via ethernet and to work on Pacific Standard Time.
