Job Summary :

Reporting to the Project Manager, the BAS Technician is responsible for programming, commissioning, and system verification of electronic end devices and third-party integration devices connected to the building automation system. This includes a strong working knowledge of HVAC components, software, electronic technology, and networking. The position requires flexible working hours based on project needs and collaboration with external parties (consultants/commissioning agents) for system verification (LEED).

Responsibilities :

  • Inspect, test, and troubleshoot low voltage power equipment and systems, network communications, end devices, peripherals, valves & actuators, relays, and sensors during commissioning.
  • Commission BAS systems, perform end-to-end verification, and report anomalies.
  • Assist in verifying the installation, commissioning, and operation of electrical and electronic equipment related to BAS.
  • Use software to simulate sequences of operations to verify proper system performance.
  • Program HVAC equipment via software and verify system performance.
  • Provide commissioning verification checklists to the Project Manager upon project completion.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of HVAC equipment, mechanical components, control strategies, and theories.
  • Ensure inspection, testing, and adjustment of electronic components and assemblies conform to specifications and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Verify network connectivity and integration with third-party systems for building automation.
  • Calibrate electrical or electronic equipment according to manuals and instructions.
  • Collect operational data and assist in preparing specifications and reports.
  • Work at heights safely, using fall protection systems.
  • Perform shutdowns and lockouts of electrical systems following proper procedures.
  • Operate mobile powered elevating devices as needed.
  • Commute to and from work sites regularly, including daytime and nighttime shifts based on schedule.
  • Work off ladders at heights of 10-12 feet for commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting.

Qualifications :

  • Knowledge of automation systems, HVAC, electrical concepts, and building operations.
  • Skills in programming, commissioning, and graphic design.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills in DDC and mechanical services.
  • Understanding of control theory and control concepts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Visio, and PC skills.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (oral and written).
  • CET designation is an asset.
