Position Summary:

Reporting to the Project Manager, the BAS Technician is responsible for programming, commissioning, and system verification of electronic end devices and third-party integration devices connected to the building automation system. This includes a strong working knowledge of HVAC components, software, electronic technology, and networking. The position requires flexible working hours based on project needs and collaboration with external parties (consultants/commissioning agents) for system verification (LEED).

Responsibilities:

1. Inspect, test, and troubleshoot low voltage power equipment and systems, network communications, end devices, peripherals, valves & actuators, relays, and sensors during commissioning.
2. Commission BAS systems, perform end-to-end verification, and report anomalies.
3. Assist in verifying installation, commissioning, and operation of electrical and electronic equipment related to BAS.
4. Use software to simulate operation sequences to verify system performance.
5. Program HVAC equipment via software and verify system performance.
6. Provide commissioning verification checklists to the Project Manager upon project completion.
7. Understand HVAC equipment and mechanical components and their relation to control strategies.
8. Ensure inspection, testing, and adjustment of electronic components meet specifications and manufacturer recommendations.
9. Verify network connectivity and integration with third-party systems.
10. Calibrate electrical or electronic instruments according to manuals and instructions.
11. Collect operational data and assist in preparing specifications and reports.
12. Work at heights using proper fall protection systems.
13. Perform shutdowns and lockouts of electrical systems safely.
14. Operate mobile elevating devices as required.
15. Commute to work sites regularly, including day and night shifts as needed.
16. Work off ladders at heights of 10-12 feet for commissioning and troubleshooting.

Qualifications:

1. Knowledge of automation systems, HVAC, electrical concepts, and building operations.
2. Skills in programming, commissioning, and graphic design.
3. Advanced troubleshooting skills in DDC/Mechanical services.
4. Understanding of control theory and concepts.
5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Visio, and PC skills.
6. Minimum 3-5 years of experience.
7. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
8. CET designation is an asset.
