About The Organization

Dark Horse Espresso Bar is a pioneer in the Toronto specialty coffee community and has become a hotspot attracting those who like great coffee, handmade pastries, and a comfortable environment. Over the past 15 years, we have evolved from one beloved neighborhood cafe to a collection of six shops in vibrant neighborhoods across the city.

About The Position

The Barista of Dark Horse’s cafe will work closely with the Store Manager to maintain an incredible employee and customer experience. Candidates should possess a business sense, natural hospitality and soft‑skills. The successful candidate will be excited at the chance to grow a coffee focused hospitality business and embrace the challenges that come along with it.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set the standard by delivering an outstanding experience for all customers and community members.
  • Build a network of promoters in the business community.
  • Support in‑store merchandising to showcase our products and drive financial performance.
  • Follow all operational policies and procedures, including those for cash handling & safety, security during each shift.
  • Accurately take food and beverage orders using the POS system.
  • Ensure that our product recipes meet the highest quality standard.
  • Support standing relationships with current supplier and develop new relationships.
  • Oversee business and employment regulations in compliance with Ontario’s standards.
  • Manage an optimized and efficient ordering process.
  • Step in or delegate team members to cover shifts in case of staff absences or illness.
  • Knowledge of Health, Safety and Food Handling Practices – ensuring they are upheld.
  • Keep the store in an excellent condition of cleanliness and merchandising.

Availability & Compensation
  • Expected number of hours: 25 hours per week.
  • Closing shifts (evening) and weekend availability required.
  • Hourly wage of up to $18.35 per hour depending on experience.
  • Our corporate benefits are available for all supervisory positions.
  • This position also participates in gratuities provided by customers in store, according to our tip allocation policy, as well as variable compensation related to the top line success of the store.
