Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and review setup sheet for each function.
  • Set up and tear down banquet rooms per contract.
  • Refresh rooms during breaks and maintain clean areas.
  • Assist guests with last-minute changes in meeting rooms.
  • Ensure AV equipment is tested and working as per contract.
  • Report damages or loss of equipment.
  • Return equipment to designated locations after functions.
  • Lock equipment storage areas before end of shift.
  • Familiarize with setup specs for all function types.
  • Receive food service instructions during pre-shift briefing.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.

About the Role

The Banquet Porter interacts with guests and co-workers in the setup and teardown of functions and responding to guest requests before, during and after functions. The Banquet Porter works to satisfy the guests' requests by performing the following duties:

What You’ll Do
  • Obtain copies of the set up sheet for each function assigned.
  • Ensure the efficient set up and tear down of banquet rooms as specified in the function contract.
  • Refresh function rooms during breaks: clean the area, refill water pitcher, reset coffee break area, spot vacuum etc.
  • Assist our guests with last minute changes and needs in their meeting rooms.
  • Ensure that all audio-visual equipment requests on a contract are in working order, clean and set up as per contract instructions (tests all equipment).
  • Report to a supervisor any damage or loss of any catering equipment or facilities.
  • Ensure the return of all catering equipment and supplies to their designated locations on completion of each function.
  • Ensure that all equipment storage areas are locked prior to the end of shift.
  • Familiarize oneself with the set up specifications for all of the types of functions the resort caters.
  • Receive food service instructions and other assigned duties during pre-shift briefing from Banquet Supervisor on duty.
  • Complete additional job-related duties as assigned.
What We’re Looking For
  • Grade 12 education, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Serving it Right Certificate.
  • Food Safe Certificate is preferred.
  • Have a clear understanding of most audio-visual equipment regarding the setup, tear down and ensure they are in working condition.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service skills.
  • Excellent communication skills are required.
  • Able to safely lift, pull, push, pull, or carry possibly up to 50 pounds depending on the task.
  • Available for flexible shift work.
