Independent Health Group (IHG) has an opportunity for a Theatre Practitioner (ODP) to join our friendly surgical team in White Horse Health Centre on an hourly paid basis.

Main duties of the job

As a Theatre Practitioner (ODP) with Independent Health Group, your primary focus will be delivering safe, high-quality care to patients throughout their perioperative journey. You will play an active part in organising and delivering patient care within the Operating Theatre, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment with the multi-disciplinary team across the department and Independent Health Group.

Job responsibilities

ClinicalCare

  • DeliveringPatient Care: Provide high-quality care throughout the perioperative process,adhering to Independent Health Group policies and procedures.
  • TheatreList Coordination: Support efficient theatre list coordination, ensuring timelystart and finish times to optimise workflow.
  • CirculatingDuties: Be proficient in circulating duties to effectively support HealthcareAssistants (HCAs) undertaking this role, ensuring smooth workflow and patientcare.
  • Equipmentand Theatre Preparation: Ensure all required equipment and theatre preparationsare completed in advance to prevent delays or cancellations. Additionally, planahead by ensuring equipment and sundries are stocked and available forsubsequent lists, supporting efficient forward planning.
  • TheatreSuite Hygiene: Maintain a clean and safe surgical environment, adhering to allrelevant hygiene protocols, including daily, weekly, and monthly cleaningschedules.
  • EffectiveCommunication: Provide support and reassurance to patients during localanaesthetic procedures, ensuring proper positioning, advocacy, andpost-operative care advice.
  • Record-Keeping:Maintain accurate, timely, and reflective clinical records in both paper anddigital formats via the Patient Administration System. Engage with new systemsand processes as they are implemented.
  • UpholdingPatient Safety Standards: Adhere to WHO surgical safety guidelines and promotea culture of speaking up for safety. Utilise the "Stop the Line" toolto immediately address concerns to ensure patient safety issues areacknowledged, work is safely paused, and corrective action is takencollaboratively:

  • WasteManagement and Infection Prevention & Control (IPC): Ensure safe wastedisposal and strict adherence to IPC measures, following Aseptic Non-TouchTechnique (ANTT) best practices.
  • EscalationProtocols: Use NEWS2 scoring to detect early signs of patient deterioration,escalating concerns appropriately through line management and incidentreporting systems.
  • Health andSafety: Uphold workplace safety standards, including safe sharps management,fire safety, and overall risk mitigation for patients, colleagues, andyourself. This includes being aware of any business continuity and emergencyplanning protocols.
  • Promotinga Culture of Safety: Follow established safety protocols to maintain highstandards of care in alignment with the Patient Safety Incident ResponseFramework (PSIRF).
  • IncidentReporting and Investigations: Ensure timely incident reporting and activelycontribute to patient safety investigations using the Systems EngineeringInitiative for Patient Safety (SEIPS) methodology, helping identify lessonslearned and integrating improvements into practice.
