Job summary

Bimbo Canada is seeking a Baking Technology specialist to provide technical support to the factory teams, collaborate with R&D, and commercialize innovations in the plant. The role requires travel across Western Canada and flexibility to support production schedules while maintaining high product quality.

Qualifications

Hiring Requirements:

Reporting to the Manager, Baking Technology, the selected person will work in collaboration with the management teams of the factories assigned in order to provide them with technical support, particularly in terms of ingredients, recipes, procedures, in order to ensure the consistent manufacture of high quality products. The person will also work in partnership with the research and development team and all multidisciplinary teams (marketing, regulatory affairs, finance, purchasing, etc.) to implement and commercialize innovation projects in the plant.

This position requires flexibility in travel in Western Canada, depending on the needs of the company, project launches and deliverables. The work schedule will need to be flexible to accommodate the testing that will be performed in accordance with the bakeries' production schedule and operational needs (including outside of working hours to accommodate general production and testing expectations).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the resolution of problems related to the baking processes faced by the plants and implement applicable action plans.
  • Support the R&D team in conducting tests to improve recipes, launch new products on the market and/or introduce new ingredients.
  • Work with plant management teams to monitor and implement new product commercialization milestones, cost reduction projects and/or product reformulations. Participate in follow-up calls and ensure that plant teams follow the established testing schedule in order to meet agreed upon timelines. Ensure the technical follow-ups resulting from tests, launches and modify the formula and process in order to optimize when necessary.
  • Assist assigned plants in responding to "quality" complaints they may receive (e.g., internal product evaluation, consumer complaints, reduction of rejections) and/or any other initiatives as needed.
  • Act as a "key" technical resource for plant management and engineering teams during any project to modify manufacturing processes and/or equipment to ensure that overall quality is maintained.
  • Train and coach employees working in the factories on ingredients, baking techniques, processes and equipment.
  • Complete and update at all stages established for a product launch, internal specification documents related to the recipe and the manufacturing process.
  • Follow up on the corrective measures to be implemented following an internal or external audit of the plants. Work with the R&D team on necessary changes to business recipes.
  • Document the observations/findings of each visit to the plants and present a summary to the management teams with key follow-ups.
  • Ensure the completion of any other mandates that may be entrusted.
Experience & Education:

University degree in Food Science and Technology (note: candidates with equivalent training, combined with experience deemed relevant will be considered during the selection process).

  • 2-3 years of experience in a similar role orexperience in a food manufacturing environment is considered an asset
  • Very good computer skills (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
  • Demonstrated leadership skills: the selected candidate must work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, keeping accurate communication. Once the projects have been implemented, this person is responsible for ensuring that all the actors involved respect their "deliverable" within the established deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills: the holder must clearly communicate the status of projects as well as details when things get complicated to all parties involved.
  • Attention to detail and rigor in follow-ups.
  • Must demonstrate a strong sense of urgency and professionalism.
  • Have a problem-solving philosophy focused on analyzing statistics and/or factual data.

The annual salary range for applicants is: $65,000 - $75,000, which does not include discretionary bonus compensation or our comprehensive benefits package. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other factors.
